To not have a clue to do

With the swede that came in my Morrison's wonky veggie box. The only thing that comes to mind is boiling it with carrots and then mashing it all up with butter. (Which reminds me of living at home and tastes rank) How can I have reached 37 and never found a use for it? Please help me make the veg of doom at least taste palatable if not enjoyable

Swede chips are yummy

onalongsabbatical · 26/11/2017 20:40

Add to soup that has other ingredients. That's pretty much all I ever do with swede, and in that context, I like the small variety it provides in winter soups.
I probably buy about three a year for this!

I've always wanted to do singing suede, you microwave it and cut the top off and scoop out (it whistles while its cooking hence the 'singing' name).

Either that or chuck it in a couple of casseroles.

coffeekittens · 26/11/2017 20:47

Singing sweede, delicious with lots of black pepper!

ILoveMillhousesDad · 26/11/2017 20:54

The hairy bikers do something, where they pack the outside with salt, then bake it in the oven.

I keep meaning to do it, but haven't got round to it yes because I never ever buy swede 😂

RavingRoo · 26/11/2017 20:56

Chop it and an onion into really small cubes, get some short crust or filo pastry and make yourself a pasty / greek pie type of thing.

starzig · 26/11/2017 20:56

Love it mashed with lots of black pepper and a touch of yogurt

Not the HB, but in a similar vein

Mae a dauphinoise style dish with it - swede, sweet potato and butternut layered with garlic, seasoning and cream. Bake in the oven until browned and bubbling (and veg cooked)

Grilledaubergines · 26/11/2017 21:06

make

katmarie · 26/11/2017 21:10

Cut into cubes, and toss in olive oil, salt and pepper, cumin and a little chilli powder, with a drizzle of honey. Roast. Try not to eat the whole pan in one sitting by yourself.

Grilledaubergines · 26/11/2017 21:12

katmarie that sounds delicious. Reckon it would work for with Christmas dinner if I left the chilli out (only because it wouldn’t go with the other veg!)

NoSquirrels · 26/11/2017 21:18

Put it in a veggie curry.

DailyMailBestForBums · 26/11/2017 21:34

Make a gratin by thinly slicing swede and sweet potato. Layer it with garlic, cream and cheese. It helps to par boil the swede before you layer up as it will cook at a different rate to the sweet potato. It looks and tastes great when it's done.

Huppopapa · 26/11/2017 21:38

Let it fester for a bit then throw it at a mummer. Grin

McSleepy · 26/11/2017 21:52

Do you have fussy eater children?! I made swede scones from a fussy eater cookbook (think it was Annabelle karmel). They were actually pretty nice. Kids ate them without knowing a thing.
