To not bother with sanitary towels

I have light periods and if I'm just hanging around at home I'll use toilet paper instead of pads.

My sister however reacted to this news by saying "eww get away from me you freak!" She seems to think this makes me some kind of disgusting monster, but pads are expensive, and who can be fucked?

Who is BU?

You.

Jaygee61 · 26/11/2017 10:52

I think it is entirely your business. There are washable pads you can get now. I no longer have periods (hurrah) but would have been tempted to try them had they been available.

Fiona1984 · 26/11/2017 10:52

Mine are also very light (thanks to Mirena), and I've considered getting cloth panty liners or period pants. It's gotta be better for the environment and cheaper, and I'm washing stuff anyway.
I'm actually gonna Google them now, thanks for the reminder

Oysterbabe · 26/11/2017 10:52

I think that's a bit odd tbh.

AnneLovesGilbert · 26/11/2017 10:53

It’s your body. But loo paper starts to disintegrate when it’s wet so don’t you find you get bits of it sticking to you?

If your periods are light you won’t need many pads and they’re quite cheap for comfort and peace of mind.

Thetreesareallgone · 26/11/2017 11:00

Sainsbury's basics are 25p for 10, I also get cheap branded ones from the Pound Shop. So, not too expensive, though more of a hassle than loo paper.

Fluffyears · 26/11/2017 11:01

Well if you got the equivalent of a burst water main that I get you’d realise toilet paper doesn’t cut it.

Rhynswynd · 26/11/2017 11:02

I make my own pads and wash them. You can make/buy liner size and reuse. But if you buy them they are a slightly expensive initial outlay. Making yourself is easy and cheap.

Battleax · 26/11/2017 11:02

Two threads about this at once? HmmBiscuit

Greyponcho · 26/11/2017 11:03

Your body, your laundry, your choice.
Thin pantry liners might be more reliable as the sticky bit will mean they won’t budge or slip by mistake, and won’t give you the “I’m wearing a nappy” ‘crinkling’ sounds of big plastic backed pads

SchadenfreudePersonified · 26/11/2017 11:05

Moste stores own brand pads are very, very cheap - however these do tend to be bulky. TBH, I doubt that toilet paper could cope with even light spotting,

I went away once and forgot my moo cup, pads were hard to come by so I used tissues and toilet paper for my whole period and it was fucking horrible. I don't know why you would actively choose it!

Oh shit sorry Blush

DontDrinkDontSmoke · 26/11/2017 11:06

Oversharing much?

Fiona1984 · 26/11/2017 11:09

It's worth thinking about what is in your sanitary towels (and tampons), often they're made with man-made materials and chemicals, that can aggravate thrush and other intimate problems.
I hate towels, glad I no longer have to use them.
The only thing that puts me off reusables is the washing and drying, and leaving them on show.

QuestionableMouse · 26/11/2017 11:10

Depends on the loo roll. Cheap thin stuff? Unreasonable. You need the super expensive stuff that comes in more colours than a new car. And do you fold? (reasonable) or scrunch? (bonkers)

munkynutts · 26/11/2017 11:10

What are you on about? My sister was over last night and I was taken aback by her being disgusted that I would do this, she seems to think a lot of my habits (such as not wearing socks with boots) are weird.

I just dont see what the difference is considering I have light periods.

@Fiona1984
I personally also find that pads can sometimes feel harsh, which is weird when you consider the extent they go to to make the packaging look "cute and girly", the efforts they make to provide scented versions (eww). You'd have thought they would be better off pouring all that R&D into something that actually feels softer

Yes, okay, because that takes two strange, simultaneous threads and loads of people sharing stories to deal with 🙄

munkynutts · 26/11/2017 11:13

@QuestionableMouse
Neither fold nor scrunch but...(wait for it) WRAP! Grin

@Battleax
Well why not jog on to another thread then?

Although I suppose if Sundays are your dedicated "failed troll hunting" days, who am I to stand in your way!
