to think Pets at Home are awful?

I went into Pets at Home earlier and was wondering if the poor bunnies/guineas in there ever actually get to go outside? do they just stay under those lights and get poked all day? I asked a member of staff and they just shrugged. Seems really cruel if so

Makes me laugh that someone went into pets at home to buy a tank without doing a single shred of research on how to keep fish beforehand. How irresponsible is that?

That's why it's known as "Death at Home" in the pet trade. 😯

I got our Female hamster from PaH. She was in the adoption bit as she was the last of her litter. Luckily, I've had many hamsters over the years and didnt need their care advice.

She died last month as old lady. She was the best and we bloody miss that little Houdini.

My Mum got me a rabbit from there sold with a guinea pig for company. Blush
Sadly she was less then a year old when I lost her, after being at the vets once a month or more 😞
Had rescue buns since, current house bun is at least 10.

I have to admit I have never been to one, but I hate the idea, and we are trying to stop one opening in our nearest town. It was turned down, but they have gone to appeal.

We are in a rural area, and there are many small local businesses that would be put at risk, not only pet shops, but pet grooming businesses too

Florence16 · 26/11/2017 16:12

Exokey did you read my post? I’m talking about my local store.

Exokey · 26/11/2017 16:15

Yes I did read your post Hmm where you said it varied from store to store so I was saying about what has happened at my local store.

Crazybunnylady123 · 26/11/2017 16:40

I rescue rabbits, not normally from pet shops. But I saw one in a store that was sick and hiding and made dp drive back for her the following day. She actually had syphilis and my vet had to order a jab in for her.

I saw a single degu being sold to a family who had never had a pet before, at a Pets at Home, two weeks ago.
I didn't know they like to live in pairs, and apparently nor did the family or the sales assistant.

alittlepotofrosie sorry are you talking about me? i’ve had my fish for 5 years, did plenty of research before hand and they’re happy and healthy, i just wanted a new tank and was having a look at the ones they had in there Confused not sure how that’s irresponsible love

i guess all pet shops are similar it just crossed my mind when i was in there if people felt the same and it looks like everyone agrees, i don’t know how they’re allowed to get away with it!!

My friend worked at PAH for a while and the staff in her store were encouraged to have a lot of interaction with the animals, handling frequently for taming, keeping their pens spotless and generally making a fuss of them. She said there were horrible staff members there that didn't give a shit but thankfully the animals were sold on to homes relatively quickly. I guess it depends on which store it is and what their staff are like. A week or two indoors not seeing the outside doesn't do any harm.
