To think Guylian seashell chocs have changed recipe?

Excitedly opened a new jumbo sized box of Guylian praline seashell chocolates this evening, and I feel really disappointed. They don't seem to taste like they used to.

AIBU to think they may have changed the recipe, like other choc manufacturers? But if so, why mess with perfection (IM previous O)?

Yes! I think so too. They're powdery and not as chocolatey as they used to be.

ChocolateDoll · 26/11/2017 02:20

Yes yes yes. Glad I'm not the only one to think this!

waitingforlifetostart · 26/11/2017 03:49

For some reason, the chocs in the big boxes taste different. The ones in the normal sized boxes are still true deliciousness!

8pawsgood · 26/11/2017 03:56

Yes..They used to be quite luxurious but now they just taste cheap and nasty.

Bufferingkisses · 26/11/2017 04:03

Boo they are my Christmas staple. All the dc boyfriends buy them because they're a sure winner and cheap around Christmas please don't tell me I'll have to fake the love?!

Kerantli · 26/11/2017 04:10

The imitation ones in Lidl are a good alternative Wink

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 26/11/2017 05:18

They look pretty but taste rank

Percephone · 26/11/2017 05:32

They've always been horrible.

OtterInDisgrace · 26/11/2017 05:37

I’ve never really liked them. They always tasted cheap and nasty to me.

MurmmersShow · 26/11/2017 06:09

Same here, otter. I never understood the hype.

Sunnysidegold · 26/11/2017 07:31

I used to like them too then my husband bought me a box as part of my birthday present and I had to palm them off to the children.

Crumbs1 · 26/11/2017 07:33

They’ve always been cheap and nasty. Tasteless grit.

CarrieBradshaw85 · 26/11/2017 08:26

A friend bought some for me in the 90's as a birthday present....they tasted how I imagine crack cocaine to be to an addict. Bought some a few years ago...tasted like how I imagine arse to taste like.

Rheged · 26/11/2017 08:29

The Lidl version is lovely and cheaper. Get some of those instead.

Comedyusername · 26/11/2017 09:22

Thanks all. Just needed confirmation that I'm not losing my sense of taste! They were my absolute favourite but sadly no longer. Might have to head to Lidl!

You are all talking bollox, they taste the same.

Soupoftheday1975 · 26/11/2017 09:30

Although - agree with waiting, I don't especially like the big boxes, they always tasted cheap but the regular one are still very nice

Jasminedes · 26/11/2017 09:36

Great - Mil gives everyone a box of these every christmas, this is our chance to steer her in a preferred direction...although she would love the Lidl cheaper alternative idea, so I can't show her this thread!

ijustwannadance · 26/11/2017 09:48

Wow. There are folks out there that actually like them.
They would be the only chocolates available in hell.

Comedyusername · 26/11/2017 12:53

Ijustwannadance With the current recipe you might be right!

OP posts:
AaandPeggy · 26/11/2017 13:41

The last few times I've had them the seashells have only had the 'shell' half way round, with a flat back. I think they're still my favourite chocolates, but I miss the full shell!

LaurieMarlow · 26/11/2017 13:47

They were always rank, just a bit of a novelty when they first came out.

I guess they've been cost engineered and that's why they taste worse.

Comedyusername · 26/11/2017 15:00

LaurieMarlow Cost engineered you say? So basically changing the recipe or using cheaper ingredients to bring the cost down. Hmmm. Think they should have done more taste testing. First world problems eh?!!

OP posts:
LaurieMarlow · 26/11/2017 15:03

Yes, that's it. I expect taste testing told them enough people would keep buying. I wonder have their sales gone down?

CountessofGrantham · 26/11/2017 15:07

The big boxes have been crap for a long time. I was bought a big box the Christmas just before I had DD2 and I remember settling down to open them while I was feeding her one evening and they were shite. That was 2012.
