To think my 10 month old is unreasonable? (Light hearted)

Because she refuses to say mummy or even mama, yet she will say daddy, nanny, cat, clap and 'ta'. Literally every time I say 'mama' she screeches 'daddy!!!!' back at me. I think it is deliberate, she knows I'm desperate to hear her say it. It was me she puked on when she was ill last week too. She's got it in for me, hasn't she?

They're hardcore, 10 month olds.

Play her at her own game. That's the way to trip her up. Stop saying "Mummy" and she'll suddenly add it to her repertoire to show off Wink

PinkHeart5914 · 25/11/2017 17:56

Both my dc said daddy first and they both look like dh, you’d think they didn’t know I carried them for 9 months!

I am currently pregnant with number 3, I am hoping for better things from this one

villainousbroodmare · 25/11/2017 17:59

2.5yo still only says Dad. I have got my own back however by teaching him to shout "Daaaad!" whenever he needs the loo.

Whatsername17 · 25/11/2017 18:00

Dd1 was much more compliant at this stage. Dd2 is currently destroying the bookshelf ignoring my 'come to mummy instruction and muttering daddy dada daddy. My mum always said the 2nd child was naughty.

My mum told me this too
Id have to agree the 2nd one is the naughty one after having my dd2 Grin

OhOurBilly · 25/11/2017 19:50

I have an almost one year old who only ever says "MAAAAAMAAAAAAAA" when he's wailing it heartbreakingly from his cot, literally, only ever time he pulls it out is when he doesn't want to be in the cot.

Rest of the time he's chirping away and it's "daddy, banana, dog, Hiya, ta" Bloody rude if you ask me!

EB123 · 25/11/2017 19:52

My youngest is 20 months and says plenty of words but not mama/mummy. He is the third and a total pickle.

BendingSpoons · 25/11/2017 19:54

My DD says 'mama' lots, usually when pointing at hideous creatures in her Dr Seuss books.

GummyGoddess · 25/11/2017 19:57

Mine doesn't say mama but does say 'no' quite a lot.

"Ds, can you say 'mama'?"

"Na."

"Maaaaammmmmaaaaa"

"Na."

"Mama?"

"DADDY!"

GodIsDead · 25/11/2017 19:57

My 10 month old doesn't say anything except hi. Envy

TroysMammy · 25/11/2017 19:58

My first word was Dad. My second was Pa for Patch the dog next door. Mam came quite low down in the pecking order.

NeverTwerkNaked · 25/11/2017 20:01

Love that you felt the need to clarify it was lighthearted Grin . Still reckon you’ll get at least one telling off though Grin

She is totally being unreasonable. The only appropriate revenge is to regularly call her by her brother’s name throughout her childhood and beyond

CoodleMoodle · 25/11/2017 20:03

My DD (3) went through a stage of:
"I love you, DD."
"And I love Dad."

That was great... HmmGrin

Andrewofgg · 25/11/2017 20:10

She thinks you are BU for not letting her say what she wants!

LaurieMarlow · 25/11/2017 20:23

I read somewhere that they often say dada first as d is one of the easiest consonants.

That's what I'm telling myself anyway.

They all have their moments. DS once pointed at the witch in Room on the Broom and said 'mummy' Sad

And my friends DD is such a daddy's girl she wanted to make her mothers day card for him. Gutting.

Enwi · 25/11/2017 20:48

If it’s any consolation I childmind for twin boys with two mums. Their first word?
‘Dadda’
Makes you wonder if they are just garbling all along! Hmm

Whatsername17 · 25/11/2017 20:53

These responded have really made me chuckle! Coodle thst is so mean of your lo! We should remind them when they are teenagers wanting lifts somewhere. Go ask daddy! Grin

Cornettoninja · 25/11/2017 20:57

Totally hear you. Almost 2 year old dd has called me mum once. It's almost worse that she actually knows! mostly I'm 'aaarrrrgghhhh' Grin

justilou1 · 25/11/2017 21:59

I lied to my husband and said that my son said "dad" first. Mine all said "Mum". I'm not going to lie to you, though. *I'm still smug and the youngest two are 11.

Ski4130 · 25/11/2017 22:15

I really wish my three dc would forget how to say ‘muuuuuu-m’ and shout ‘dad’ instead!!!

ItsNachoCheese · 25/11/2017 22:17

Ds said best friends name before mum... i still get teased about it from her even now and hes 2.5yo now lol

MindWillingBodyNotSoMuch · 25/11/2017 22:39

My husband was away for the first 7 months of DD1’s life and she still said daddy first!

I think it’s because when you are at home with them all the time you talk about other people more.

P.S. The first time my DD2 said ‘gamma’ was when she saw a bottle of Diet Coke and said ‘gamma want wodka’! It was a proud moment for me because it was a sentence but my Mam (gamma) was shamed, bless her.

mamahanji · 26/11/2017 07:57

My dd2 is 1 in a week and whilst she does say mummy (not mama), her favourite world is barbecue.

Her dad thought it would be hilarious to teach her, and fuck me sideways she learned it really quickly and now wanders around the house, destroying everything and muttering 'barbecue, duck, nanny, barbecue'

My first was an angel until 2.5...this one was born a challenge 😂

Mammyloveswine · 26/11/2017 11:07

I have a video of my now 22 month old when he was about 10 months old just saying "dada" in response to me going "mamma" over and over... I told my husband it was only sounds and not to get excited... now st 5am when he's shouting "mamma mummy mam mam maaaam mammyyyyyyy!" I have to get up as can't still just dismiss it as sounds 🤣🤣
