AIBU to resort to having a CV written professionally?

I have been a teacher for 14 years and have made a definite decision to leave the profession and look for something else, preferably working in an outreach role with schools/young people.
I have applied for a few roles that have sounded perfect, and I have been careful to match my experience to the criteria on the applications.
After a Google, however, I've found out that companies use scanning software to pick out key words etc. and that my CV doesn't cut the mustard.
Have any of you used a professional CV service? Or would that be cheating? I'm 38 and would love to have changed career in the next year or two.
Thank you in advance, oh wise ones!

No.

You don't consider it cheating if you hire a plumber or a carpenter, do you? Even though you theoretically could do those jobs yourself, too.

It depends on whose service you plan to use. As a former teacher with advanced qualifications in careers advice I'd counsel you to be careful who you pay money to.

Just be very, very careful who you use to write your CV professionally, a personal recommendation would be best.

@Hevonbu - I like your style! @ilovesooty - I've found a local company with lots of 5 star reviews who meet with you to discuss your requirements. It's all a very steep learning curve after 14 years...
