to not understand how it is legal for the Daily Mail to pull stories from Mumsnet?

Surely its breaching some kind of privacy law? I couldn't copy someone's post and put it on a blog and reversing the situation, if I were to promote my own blog/writing on here it would be taken down so how is it possible for the Fail to repeatedly get away with taking information off here and using it?
And blatantly linking to the site too! Using people's usernames etc etc.

I know that they are scumbags anyway, but I can't understand how they get away with it?

Hey folks, thanks for your comments. This subject has come up quite a few times on the boards, but we're happy to explain how things stand with regards to other sources lifting threads from MN.

As many posters have pointed out, unfortunately there’s not a huge amount we can do about it - the DM would likely claim Fair Use and that would be difficult to challenge. They would say they're just 'reporting' what was said on the thread.

Being an open site does bring many advantages, but this kind of thing is a consequence of that, we're afraid. We always like to remind our users that this is a public forum, searchable by Google, legally linkable to - and quotable by - all and sundry.
