Hi basically, I got off to a rough start with breastfeeding but it was getting better recently until I got ill ( she had tongue tie etc at the beginning so I mixed with formula but was able to feed less formula slowly), had diarrhoea and vomiting for a week and ending up taking Imodium which I thought was okay to take while breastfeeding but wasn’t according to the leaflet in the packet. So I didn’t feed her for a few days and then my pump broke on me so I couldn’t fully express either. So I’ve tried everything (fenugreek, feeding more, pumping etc) to get my supply up but nothing will work the milk has nearly gone I think. Will I be able to get Domperidone to help. I really want to breastfeed and I was finally getting the hang of it, and formula is quite expensive for us atm. She’s nearly 5 weeks so still really little. And I don’t want to just formula feed fully, Idm mixed feeding Sad

Try Fenugreek. You can buy capsules from health food stores. It’s excellent.

I Did, a few years ago and recently. I found it very helpful. It’s harder to get a prescription now. Try PushDoctor, I found them very helpful (they advised re tests for prolactin levels and were willing to prescribe after appropriate tests and monitoring, although in the end I didn’t need them to).

There are a few FB groups you might find helpful; try searching for ‘domperidone’ in groups on FB. Good luck!

The cardiac risks are vastly overstated. The concern comes from outcomes in a group of very sick elderly patients given massive doses intravenously. Very different to young, healthy nursing mothers.

I found oats helped a lot so ate porridge twice a day at the start, could be worth a try while you're waiting for your prescription, if you can get it.

I’d try natural methods like fenugreek capsules, flaxseed meal, brewers yeast, oats, etc. plus lots of skin-to-skin and frequent nursing. Good luck!

It was hard work for me to get domperidone to help my supply, as its only known as a side effect. They only way I managed was to get the literature from the NICU we were in and finally they gave in, and I think again it was only because she was in NICU that we could get that(she was in for 3 months at 27 weeks gestation). You can buy it over the counter but it is expensive.

May be too late, but yes I was prescribed it by the GP after recommendation from midwife. This was a couple of years ago.
Hope you are getting on ok.
