To think it's not weird to pick your outfit for work the night before?

I always do. it just saves me so much time in the morning. I can get dressed in less than 5 minutes.

Two of the women I work with thought this was exceptionally odd. Aibu?

I do sometimes but not always. It really doesn't take that long to open my wardrobe and pick out something to wear. I know what goes together so it only takes a minute or 2.

isaulte · 23/11/2017 23:26

I do this for an early start (which is quite often), so I don't disturb the rest of the family rummaging through wardrobes etc. And that includes underwear, tights, bag, family lunches, family work/school clothes ironing* and bins out (if applicable!)

Ditto if i know my hair needs washing, it takes ages to wash, dry and straighten my thick long hair so I plan ahead for least disturbance!

However, there are some evenings when I just don't know what I want to wear the next day, so there have been mornings when I have been peering into my wardrobe using the light from my phone to select an outfit.

*I hate ironing and a couple of years ago liberated myself from the weekend 3 hour "ironing pile". Now I spend 5 mins ironing shirts each evening and taking a bit of extra care when drying and folding. No-one has noticed the difference.

elephantoverthehill · 23/11/2017 23:28

For me 3 colours work for work. Navy blue, brown and black. I don't put clothes ready for the morning, just get trousers from the wardrobe and work from there, depending upon the season.

SabineUndine · 23/11/2017 23:28

Wish I could be that organised.

MyDcAreMarvel · 23/11/2017 23:29

I don't understand the hanging of bras. Do you all wear a clean bra every day? I wear mine for two days three Blush

BossyBitch · 23/11/2017 23:31

I do for the entire week. I'm not a morning person at all. If I had to actually decide what to wear right after getting up I would have been fired and jailed for indecent exposure years ago!

AdoraBell · 23/11/2017 23:33

Not odd at all. I don’t now, but only because I work from home. When I actually left the house to work sorting my clothes saved valuable snoozing time in the mornings.

BelleandBeast · 23/11/2017 23:35

This is why dresses are great for work.

neveradullmoment99 · 23/11/2017 23:36

Sometimes i think about it and then pick it out in the morning. Other time i hang it up. I very rarely get up and dont have a clue about what i am wearing but i do it and its not odd.

elephantoverthehill · 23/11/2017 23:40

Belle Yes. Dresses are great because it is a complete outfit. minus a jacket or cardi It's a shame that I really have to wear trousers for work.

PricillaQueenOfTheDesert · 23/11/2017 23:43

It’s not weird. I’ve always done it and like pp said, wearing a dress means you don’t have to think about much at all.

Very rarely I have to change my clothing option because weather has changed massively.

The few times I’ve not pre planned I’ve always picked wrong.

Originalfoogirl · 23/11/2017 23:58

Dresses are great because it is a complete outfit

But dresses need tights. That adds too many minutes to the getting dressed time!

elephantoverthehill · 24/11/2017 00:06

Trousers need socks in the winter. [grin}

JingsMahBucket · 24/11/2017 00:07

@MyDcAreMarvel I was wondering a similar thing. I know I need to up my quantity of bras and I'm planning to shop the sales.

BackforGood · 24/11/2017 00:09

Not weird at all.
Perfectly normal in fact.
Fine if they don't, but doesn't make it weird to be organised.

Notso · 24/11/2017 00:13

Never. I've never found picking what to wear takes more than thirty seconds unless it's for a big event.

ScreamingValenta · 24/11/2017 07:15

@BertieBotts

I will re-wear several items throughout the week, so it's not as time-consuming as five entirely separate outfits. It's usually 5 x blouses/dresses, a couple of skirts and a couple of jackets/cardigans. I'll then add underwear and tights each night so I have everything ready. The advantage is there's no time wasted in the morning working out what will go with what or rummaging around trying to find something, or discovering at the last minute something has lost a button.

heron98 · 24/11/2017 07:22

I do only because I get all my stuff ready the night before.

However. I bought five identical tops and five identical skirts and wear them all week because I can't be arsed so essentially wear the same thing every day anyway Smile

DancingHouse · 24/11/2017 07:24

It used to be a lot easier when I had a uniform there's no thinking involved. Now I can wear anything (smart/presentable) and it takes me forever to get my shit together so I pick everything out for the week. I might even have to start doing it for weekends and holidays too just to save me some thinking time.

BillywigSting · 24/11/2017 07:26

I don't lay it out but do plan in my head what I'm going to wear (and make sure it's all clean and dry).

I don't get dressed until dp has left for work so scrabbling about in the dark isn't a problem but the less thinking I have to do early in the morning the better.

Scribblegirl · 24/11/2017 07:30

I've recently got into having a Monday outfit, a Tuesday outfit, and so on Blush

It's early days but it's saving me a massive amount of time.

theredjellybean · 24/11/2017 07:31

I do this too.
Everything, including linger, shoes etc... All hung up on one hangar.
I usually have rough plan in head for the week.. Will wear some things more than once, so tend to organise around one or two key items... This week it was back skirt and grey fitted trousers..black jacket. Then each day just chose top, access, shoes.

I noticed that lots on thread who do this are up early for work... Maybe that's the common denominator?

GeekyBlinders · 24/11/2017 07:32

I can dressed in five minutes without picking out an outfit. I just put some clothes on. Before I had DS, I used to plan my outfit the night before but I wouldn't get it out and put it on a chair or whatever, and sometimes I'd get dressed, then change my mind and try something else on. But I was slim and young and had time to spare in those days - with toddler DS around now, none of those things are true, so I just throw something respectable on.

Soozikinzii · 24/11/2017 07:40

I do I am useless in the morning I leave the minimum to do in the morning

NashvilleQueen · 24/11/2017 07:45

If I’ve something important on at work the next day where I need to look smart then definitely identify what I’m wearing.

If a normal day ahead I’ll prob mull on it for a minute or so before bed and make sure I (think I) know where the component parts are.

But other days - generally a Friday - I’ll wing it on the morning. I actively dislike having to think about work planning in my own time so a little act of rebellion now and then perks me up. And then I’m in a total tailspin the next morning.
