How do you do Christmas?

Growing up all the presents came from father Christmas apart from those off family or friends. It never occurred to me to wonder why my parents never got me anything!

I don't have children of my own but would do the same.

Presents from family/friends are all put under the tree with everything we buy. They're put under the tree Christmas Eve as 'santa' brings them. Family and friends are thanked by myself and DP for their gifts, DC will thank gift givers when they are old enough to understand who actually buys the presents.

FC stocking presents and the bigger family/friends presents under the tree.

When the kids were small they had one present from Father Christmas and he rest from us , even the stocking. We still get a silly present from Father Christmas ( usually something I found in the pound shop)

Kids get a pillow case of presents from Father Christmas. A smaller item from the wish list plus books, stationery, selection pack, bath bombs, chocolate coins. I usually spend £40 per child (two children). Everything else is under the tree labelled from the giver. Pillow care bits buy us extra time in bed as they have permission to open on waking.

On Christmas Eve we make mince pies and biscuits for Father C left out with a glass of port. Carrot and a glass of milk for Rudolf.

Fairly simple but works for us. DD1 knows I'm Father C now. I think the main present always being from us made it less of a blow. She's happy to go along with it for her sister (and the presents).

Same as you OP- I'm Irish and this was the norm among my school friends and cousins so we also didn't question why our parents never got us anything.

MuddlingThroughLife · 23/11/2017 20:00

Exactly the same as you OP. Everything is from Santa in our house unless from a relative.

mumisnotmyname · 23/11/2017 20:10

Santa brings everybody a stocking, they are opened first thing. Presents under the tree are opened in the afternoon after lunch.

Littlelambpeep · 23/11/2017 20:11

Santa got everything except for aunts etc. Never questioned why parents didn't

I think I will give a small thing from dh and I on christmas eve to DC.

Needmorehands · 23/11/2017 20:21

Santa brings stockings - silly glasses, chocolate coins, new pens, small items etc which are opened on parents bed when the kids wake.
'Big' presents are under the tree from parents, relatives, friends etc. They get put there when they are delivered (we don't put our tree up till quite late in Dec)

BewareOfTheToddler · 23/11/2017 20:39

In our house as kids, Father Christmas brought the big presents and we opened these in the morning (we would get a sack each). Our parents would go and see Father Christmas in town in December to discuss what we were getting. Basically, he was like a magical version of Yodel Grin. Worked very well as we knew there was parental input but never questioned the magic we may have been unusually gullible. So basically, we knew these presents were chosen by our parents but delivered by FC.

In the afternoon, we opened presents from family and exchanged gifts with each other (grandparents, etc).

DS is only 2 but I plan for us to break up the day in a similar way - as a kid, it meant lots of fun with presents in the morning but with more to come in the afternoon, and our grandparents got to see us open their gifts to us, etc.

This year, we may do a second present exchange when we take DS to his DGPs, for similar reasons.

HolyShet

Santa brings a stocking of "little treats and surprises". Opened by the fire with homemade cinnamon rolls to eat as soon as everyone is awake

Have you room in your life for another child? Have you considered adopting a 44 year old new daughter?

isittheholidaysyet · 23/11/2017 22:53

Santa brings a stocking/sack full of surprises, these are usually cheap, but not necessarily small, it also includes things like most of their new underwear for the year, a craft set, sweets, chocs, maybe a book or small toy they had asked for, etc.

This gets opened on Christmas morning when daddy is at work.

Kids get 1 expensive present (Or 2 to the same value) under the tree from mummy and daddy, with all presents from relatives. These get opened in the afternoon after dinner.

GoldSpot · 23/11/2017 22:59

Father Christmas does the stocking, opened in the morning. All presents under the tree are from friends and family - opened after lunch.

Not sure about this Christmas Eve box malarkey....

sweetsomethings · 23/11/2017 23:17

Same here as you too OP everything from santa unless from a friend or relative those go under the tree as we see people over the xmas period .
