AIBU to ask for your washing powder recommendations? What actually gets your clothes clean and your white white? Thank you.

The pink Surf. One of the few that agrees with both Dd1"s skin and mine.

Topseyt · 23/11/2017 18:24

Ariel liquid tabs for me.

Deathraystare · 23/11/2017 18:24

As I am so clumsy - powder would go everywhere- I use tabs. Mainly ariel, bold or Surf but have also used the stuff from Lidl. I also use buckets of Vanish as I always get stuff down my top (messy eater).

Katyb1310 · 23/11/2017 18:33

I have persil at the moment, I got a huge box of 100 washes on offer in Morrisons for £10. It's the best one I've had in a long time. I went online to order a measuring thing and the woman on the live chat thing said 3 tablespoons was a good amount until I received it.

poisonedbypen · 23/11/2017 20:40

I'm pretty sure I read that Daz will always be the previous version of Ariel, so when they change Ariel that will become Daz (or Surf, whichever is the same company). May be bullshit of course!

FrogFairy · 23/11/2017 20:49

Ariel, bought only when on offer then I stock up on several boxes.

wonkylegs · 23/11/2017 21:24

Persil non bio powder
and a Dr Beckmann Colour & Dirt collector sheet to stop colour run

I found that the powder leaves less crud & residue than tabs & liqitabs and seems to work better. The colour run sheet seems to keep colours & whites bright and I do a lot of white shirts for DH & DS who also are good at dropping stuff on them.Angry

wonkylegs · 23/11/2017 21:25

Persil is the only one that DH isn't allergic too so that kinda chose itself

Calvinlookingforhobbs · 23/11/2017 22:34

Some really interesting responses. I think I’ll check for offers on Dazzz, pink surf and Ariel.
Has only experience with Aldi own brand?
I tried Tesco Oxy stain remover but it’s no use!

I was also told that girls aren't good for the machine (and apparently over time they can cause a really nasty smell) Hmm

LoniceraJaponica · 25/11/2017 14:26

Girls? Grin

Somethingfantastic89 · 26/11/2017 01:23

Grin LOL I meant gels - bloody phone
I can't stop giggling lol

HamSandWitches · 26/11/2017 01:48

Daz powder for whites
Pink surf liquid for everything else
Comfort creations softer

Wish they would bring back hot fill washers, mine never used to get mouldy and lasted years.

Jb291 · 26/11/2017 02:00

Lidl Lavender and Camomile washing powder smells lovely and works really well. Very economical as well

Monkeyinshoes · 26/11/2017 02:05

Ariel powder. Other washing powders I've tried never seem to get stains out first time.

I did use Tesco own brand for a while but it left white powdery residue on the glass of the door, didn't seem to dissolve properly.

I don't like liquids, when I used to use them my machine would start smelling after a while.

Percephone · 26/11/2017 06:56

Can you use Dr Beckham Glowhite on things that have some colour e.g. football shits? Or would it fade them?

Percephone · 26/11/2017 06:57

Shirts Blush

m011y · 26/11/2017 06:58

Vanish, vanish and more vanish. Spray it on the stains pre wash , add it to the wash for extra tough stains.

rubybleu · 26/11/2017 06:59

Why do powders not come with a scoop in this country? At what point did someone say, I know, people will whip out their kitchen measuring jug and measure their washing powder!

That’s the reason I don’t use powder. I sent away for a free scoop and was sent a pointless cone that did fuck all.

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 26/11/2017 07:23

I use aldi bio powder (scooped out using a standard measuring scoop from Poundland which I already had and basically never used!). I really like it but tbh I haven't shopped around - I was using Ecover non-bio liquid before this and I like the idea of Ecover but it wasn't strong enough to cope with my hard water maybe - plus, as others have said, the crapness of non-bio. (Looking online suggests that Ecover do a bio version, but I've never managed to find it in store anywhere...)

NotCitrus · 26/11/2017 09:03

Lidl non-bio tablets and stain remover powder. Ecover liquid for darks (underwear included) but Lidl stuff works well.

asmuchuseasachocolatefireguard · 26/11/2017 09:07

Daz from the supply shop so I get the big box does 100 washes for £10 and stain remover and blue comfort .

Betsy86 · 26/11/2017 09:12

The massive box of pinnk surf is half price so just £7 in morrisons at the mo.
I buy a mixture of stuff im a sucker for offers and dont really have a favourite but im terrible at measuring out never looks enough and il throw more in then tell myself off Hmm going to order a measuring thingy thanks for the tip x

SilverySurfer · 26/11/2017 10:04

LoniceraJaponica
Non bio liquids and gels aren’t good for washing machines. They don’t kill off any bacteria that will accumulate in a warm damp atmosphere and you will end up with mould and a smelly machine. The gel also forms a nasty gungy mess and often is the main reason people have to call out washing machine repair men.

I used to use non bio liquid and DD’s eczema got worse and worse and my washing machine started to smell. I switched to Ariel powder and my washer stopped smelling and DD’s eczema disappeared. This was because the mould was aggravating it.

I only ever use Fairy non-bio liquid tabs and don't use stinky fabric conditioners.

They have been used in the same washing machine for fifteen years with no sign of mold or a bad smell. I get a rash if I wear anything washed in Ariel, so will stick with Fairy non-bio.

CaptainHammer · 26/11/2017 10:09

I find Ariel original the best.

Liiinoo Mine said the same as Betty that powder is the best to use.
