I adore her.

Amazing performances and always performing live. All these wannabe "singers" that claim they can't sing live because they are "dancing" and yet she can belt out a tune on the side of a huge building.

This is one of the best performances of her, or anyone, I have ever seen:

Yes, I know, Chrys2017, I explained my thoughts in my previous replies on the subject. Pink sang 100 percent live on "her" parts of the song and then joined in 100 percent live with the either unseen or prerecorded backing track and singers as is what happens on the actual track. Unless it's a stripped down solo performance you can't not have backing singers/track and sing live by yourself because it would make the song sound weird.

Love, love, love Pink. The perfect antithesis to pouty, self obsessed pop stars Little Mix Love her relationship with Carey, her funky hair, her unbelievable fitness, her attitude, voice, everything! I put her on a par with Beyonce in term of talent though they are very different.

honeyroar · 22/11/2017 19:49

I met her once, she was a bit disappointing. Quite aloof and a tad diva-ish, not as half as down to earth as I had expected. Her manager said she was one of the most down to earth people she'd ever managed, so perhaps i got her on a bad day. I don't dispute that she is a superb performer, and a awesome gymnast too. But she does pop up at all the award ceremonies and trendy pop events - id like to see her be more of a rock type performer and less conventional pop star.

Gizmo79 · 22/11/2017 19:51

She is definitely my girl crush!

Welshmaenad · 22/11/2017 19:51

I adore her. The documentary she released on Apple Music recently to coincide with the new album (which I genuinely think is her best work to date and I've loved her since Can't Take Me Home) is fab and worth watching.

My children love her too, I have encouraged this, I think she's a great role model and not just for girls, my 7 year old boy thinks she's kick ass.

I really hope she announces U.K. dates for next year as the kids and I are desperate to see her live.

MissionItsPossible · 22/11/2017 19:53

There's a documentary!? 😱 Watching immediately.

OP, it's a thing - it's a 'live vocal to backing track'. She is singing live but the backing track has her pre-recorded vocal on it in order to boost.
It may well be very low in the back as you can hear her live vocal but it would be very difficult to sing upside down, with your throat elongated in the position she is in.

Other terms are 'topping and tailing' (when they sing the opening section / solo sections of a track but have a recorded vocals on backing track for any harmonies / dance sequences) , 'full mime to live track' (mined vocals / live band) and 'full mime' (as it sounds - nothing is live).

Welshmaenad · 22/11/2017 19:59

She actually says she sings better upside down. And on the carpool karaoke she proved it!!

LivLemler · 22/11/2017 19:59

LOVE Pink. I think she's really underrated (not on this thread obviously Grin ).

CandleWithHair · 22/11/2017 20:16

Amazing performance, although I’d still say this is her absolute pinnacle (and more evidence that she absolutely 100% can and does sing live, upside down, spinning around).

GlossyShine · 22/11/2017 20:22

It is live. She says she sings better upside down. On Carpool Karaoke they go to a playground and she demonstrates...

Goingalonenow · 22/11/2017 20:26

mission I was meant to be at that show too!!

SinglePringle · 22/11/2017 20:38

On Carpool Karaoke, her head / neck are supported when she’s in the playground. In the above - admittedly amazing - clip, her throat is very inverted and unsupported when she is upside down. Her vocal chords will be stretched. She IS still singing but has her vocal on a backing track also for that section.

But she is amazing! (But I don’t think she sounded any different upside down with Corden).

ItsNachoCheese · 22/11/2017 20:41

I love p!ink she is bloody brilliant

user1483644229 · 22/11/2017 20:41

I was walking down the street once and she was walking next to me - I couldn't believe it. Said nothing as come from a small country where people don't tend to say anything when they see famous people. Knew it was her as she was in town performing.

EastMidsMummy · 22/11/2017 20:45

Great story.

WineIsTheAnswer · 22/11/2017 20:53

I love p!nk and she sings live. She has said previously that she makes a point of heavy breathing to show this. It's also the one reason why she misses words during her concerts.

First time I have ever said this about one of her performaces I'm pretty sure there's some guide vocals in there supporting her for very short sections of the performance. The heavy breathing at the start while she's still disappears (about 1:35) but jumps back again just before she touches the wall (about 1:45) but still very much a live performance, a very impressive performance, I was blown away.

WineIsTheAnswer · 22/11/2017 20:59

One of the reasons not the one.

MissionItsPossible · 22/11/2017 21:02

WineIsTheAnswer But this is how it is in the actual song. If you listen to the album version, at the very points you describe where there is backing supporting her there are backing singers backing up the song in the background. Noted overuse of the word backing and coming across as a crazy fan Blush

And I couldn't find the documentary someone mentioned upthread Sad Will look more tomorrow.

I think she has a talent for singing and she clearly works hard but I find her songs really bland.

glenthebattleostrich · 22/11/2017 21:04

I've not heard much of her music bit agree she is a good role model. The speech she gave about her daughter feeling ugly was inspiring.

MissionItsPossible · 22/11/2017 21:05

Goingalonenow

Did you feel gutted too? Grin

I was lucky to see her at her Missundaztood tour which was much more personal and with a smaller crowd in a smaller venue but didn't feel the same love for her as I do now Grin

She's and incredible artist, I'm a singer and I've admired her for years, pretty much since I watched her one armed push ups in the Most Girls video.

My husband saw her life about 12 years ago and said she was amazing. And that's high praise from him!

MyDcAreMarvel · 22/11/2017 22:18

Op open Apple Music and search for "pink documentary ".

quencher · 22/11/2017 23:32

Ella, Aretha, Dusty, Darlene Love, Tracey Thorn, Joni Mitchell... blah blah blah! It’s great they are great. But other singers these days have their own uniqueness too that we might relate to. It does not take away from those who are dead and gone and soon to be dead and gone. It’s ok to like both or just one. Stop putting people down by thinking your choice of songs and artist is far superior.

Back to the op.
I was recently talking to dh about pink. I think that she is one of those artist that has stayed constants in the charts. They have never been the top female but has never been the least liked. They are just there. For example never fighting for the top spot. Usually that is reserved for some people who come and go. I don’t know whether it’s a compliment or not.

What I value is her attitude to being her self and encouraging others.

What I don’t like is the constant celebrity name dropping/attacking and mostly in a negative way to elevate herself.

Other than that, her shows and music are great.
