AIBU to be hugging myself as I decide what I am going to spend the 5k on, thatI am about to save on stamp duty. Completing my first property purchase in three weeks’ time.

Amazing news!

Estate agent Savills estimates that the average stamp duty bill for first-time buyers is about £2,700.

But in many parts of the country, first-time buyers will see no - or very little - saving at all. In the North of England, the average Stamp Duty charge is currently £11.82, according to analysts at AJ Bell.

This is because average house prices are only just above the English Stamp Duty threshold, at £125,000.

I missed out on car scrappage, I missed out on this. I'm not a parent so I don't get a paid sabbatical equivalent to a period of maternity leave. Bloody Government, when will they ever do anything for ME??? Smile

That's great.
However I suggested you tuck the 5k away to use against unexpected emergencies such as boiler breaking.

Hiptrip · 22/11/2017 15:50

Boiler breaking has just happened to my sister and that is what it is costing her to sort it. Good advice!
