AIBU to think that gender should not be the only essential part of their identity which people can self-define?

If people are now entitled to choose their own pronoun and gender identity, why not other parts of their identity?
For instance, if I were to announce that I am now 23 and beautiful I should be treated as such?
If I were to decide that I am now Irish I could keep my EU passport after Brexit?
Or that my friend who is under threat of deportation should be entitled to a British passport simply because she self-identifies as British?

How would you define your true self (which others will now be legally obliged to respect and acknowledge?)

A horse. A beautiful one :)

Don't walk too close behind me and no sudden noises please.

What I don't really understand is the difference, that I am told is obvious, between transgender and transracial. Maybe somebody can explain why one is fine and the other an abomination. Serious question.

So-called transablism (wanting one's body to become disabled eg to lose a limb or become paralysed) is incredibly disturbing and I cannot believe that there are doctors who will enable and facilitate this disorder by removing body limbs etc. However mich the person suffers this cannot be the answer. No one supports an anorexic to become as thin as they want to be because they believe it ill make them happy.

It is surely (by all usual psychology) the fixation on a body image that the person perceives will give them the 'right kind of life', regardless of whether other factors are at play in the unhappiness. I believe they have 'grass is greener' thinking, 'if only I was thin I would be a happy' if only I had a face lift, I would be happy, . This fixation is an obsession beyond all reason and clearly a MH disorder and not dissimilar from magical thinking.

It hurts me to think of the pain these people feel from their disorder, and many of them will have already early experienced trauma, but my goodness, there is a vast difference between using medical advances to heal and medicine to transform and disable due to an MH condition. Just because we can, doesn't mean that we should.

And if this enabling and 'feeding' of MH disorders is what has come from easily available medical technology and being able to have nose or boob job and quick fix from a MH delusion then I am so, so concerned and this truly is a Brave New (Scary) World.

Asking questions and wanting to debate is not a hate crime nor is it violence.

I have seen very little so called transphobia on the different threads. The vast majority of posters have continually said that they hold no ill will against anyone that is transgender and will use and do use the individuals preferred pronouns.

Wanting to debate about how the proposed changes will affect women is not holding bigoted views. Being called TERFS and being told to shut up, die etc. are violent views constantly trotted out by trans activists.

I believe in biological material reality, you cannot change your born sex. Live your life how you choose but when it impedes on the life of others and tries to erase what it is to be a woman then that is not acceptable.

You people are disgusting. Schoolyard bullies. Aren't you all so funny.

Gingernaut · 22/11/2017 09:46

Aren't there trans-species people too?

SomewhatIdiosyncratic · 22/11/2017 09:46

I tell myself "I am tall, I am fast, I am strong" when running.

I ignore the sniggers of heightist people who don't believe that 5ft 2 is tall.

Gingernaut · 22/11/2017 09:47

Yup.

@Gingernaut yes me! I am FHtoMD

That’s female human to Male dinosaur. Specifically a T-Rex.

I don’t do any lifting due to my little arms. And I have the right to take huge bites out of people when I am hungry.
