Changing careera

I am at a cross-road and I have no idea what to do.

I work in a field that makes me tired, angry and I dread going there. BUT the money is good. Not fabulous, but good. Think that I can afford 2 holidays/year, buy clothes and other women necessities, pay bills, food, go out and save around £500 a month.

NOW. I have the opportunity of changing careers into a field I’m much interested in, has more options for progress in maybe 1,5-2 years but is around £500 less a month.

I am thinking that now that I am 25 it’s probably one of the best times in my life to switch careers.

What would you do? I need to mention that I don’t have children or rent/mortgage or any other loan type outgoings such as loans, credit cards, etc. But I am worried as it is a big change. AIBU? Does anyone have any successful stories about career change?

Thanks everyone, looking forward to your replies!Flowers

Obviously the title should’ve been “changing career”....Blush

You only get one life. Don't spend it doing a job you hate.

25, childfree, no rent or mortgage - never going to be a better time!

Good luck!

SprogoSphere · 21/11/2017 18:14

Agree with PP - never a better time. Million per cent wish I’d done this where you are.

Wow, thanks for the quick replies!

Your comments encourage me, I wish that bitch called anxiety wouldn’t step in and tell me “you won’t manage on that amount of money”, “you won’t be good in the new field”, etc.

Please, if you have any success stories, do feed me!FlowersFlowersFlowers

If you have no outgoings why wouldn't you survive on £500 less for now?? It's only for now not forever. Maybe it means only 1 holiday a year- that would be bearable doing a job your actually like. Go for it!!

MrTrebus · 21/11/2017 18:27

On a side note I wish I was 25 again!

I changed my career at 30 from something which had long hours, a lot of travelling in the UK and made me tired and gave me ulcers.

I dropped almost £10k a year in salary at the time and it could have been a real risk and gone tits up but I have to say that whilst it’s been challenging at times it was the best decision I ever made. Now, having studied to get my professional qualification in the field, I earn more than I would have in my ‘old’ career and job.

Good luck if you decide to go for it.

@MrTrebus that knocked some sense into me! Thanks!

@winterinmadeira thanks for that. I actually think I will go for it. If I never take any risks I won’t get anywhere. Thanks again!!

No problem at all! You have flexibility and freedom at 25 and the world is your oyster as the saying goes.

Sparklesocks · 21/11/2017 19:03

Go for it! You’ll regret it if you don’t try
