Is this conjunctivitis? Should I keep DD off school?

DD aged 9, her friend was dropped off at ours on Sunday for a night as his parents had something come up.

Child arrives and has an obvious case of conjunctivitis. Hmm

They knew this but left him anyway...but that's another story.

I'm in Oz so it's Tuesday morning here. Last night, Monday evening...DD's eye was all pink in the corner. It was itchy. I bathed it in a bit of salt water.

This morning it's calmer but still a little bit pink...a very little bit.

Does she need to stay off school?

Don't know about Oz but NHS and Public Health here tells us all fine to go to school/work no sick notes etc (unless you feel very unwell with it or work where you are in close contact withe shared items like phones where it can spread) and children can go to school as normal

Ok to go in. Get chlorasig from pharmacy (v mild antibiotic that used to be script only but now OTC in Oz) and an extra bottle too so you can use at first sign future outbreaks.

I'd keep a DC off if their eyes were painfully itchy/gritty especially if that meant they wanted to keep them closed.

Once vision is OK I'd send them in. Conjunctivitis can be either viral or bacterial, so eyedrops won't necessarily work (active ingredient for bacterial conjunctivitis is chloramphenicol)
