For making my little girl ask to go to the toilet at home.

Huh?

hotbutteredcrumpetsandtea · 19/11/2017 14:35

Yes, yabu.

Emilybrontescorsett · 19/11/2017 14:35

Can she not just go by herself?
How old is she?

Ausparent · 19/11/2017 14:36

Yes. Unless you are at the meal table and she needs to leave.

Her home is not an institution

EllaHen · 19/11/2017 14:36

Yes, YABU.

Rebekteach · 19/11/2017 14:36

She always goes in the bathroom and turns the taps on, locks the door and would be in their all day given the choice. She is 5

What? Do you mean she’s very young as needs to ask for your help or do you want her to ask permission to use the toilet in her own home?

Nanny0gg · 19/11/2017 14:38

She shouldn't have to ask.

But she could 'tell' you she's going.

Rebekteach · 19/11/2017 14:38

I get her to ask so I can make sure she doesn't misbehave, she keeps messing up the bathroom.

Ausparent · 19/11/2017 14:38

That's not going to the bathroom OP. That is playing in the bathroom.

She should have autonomy over her bodily functions but isn't allowed to play with the water in the bathroom for hours on end. That is a different conversation

Rebekteach · 19/11/2017 14:39

I like that idea Nanny.

Ausparent

She uses the excuse of needing the toilet to get in and play.

DJBaggySmalls · 19/11/2017 14:44

Find out what she's playing and try to redirect it into something less destructive, and explain that the bath can be dangerous if you're not there. She could get scalded or worse.

EB123 · 19/11/2017 14:47

Put something over the top of the door so she can't close it fully so can't lock it.

Justbookedasummmerholiday · 19/11/2017 14:49

As a dm who's ds has just flooded our downstairs today I feel your pain.

ChocolateButton15 · 19/11/2017 15:22

Yabu to make her ask! 5 is old enough for you to explain she needs to go toilet, flush, wash hands and leave. Warn her that if she keeps messing up the bathroom then x will happen....i.e remove screen time for a day, make her clean up the mess or remove a toy etc. Maybe move the lock higher up or put a door stop on it so she can't shut it.
