DP is a teacher and currently ill with a bug. He took Friday off but is still not better and can't work tomorrow.

This is the first time in over 4 years I've seen DP ill so he must be feeling rough!

WHBU to phone his headteacher today to say he won't be in tomorrow, he wants to give as much notice as possible. If he waits until tomorrow to phone the school, no one will answer until 7:45 and that will leave people rushing around trying to find cover.

Forwarding plans is a reasonable expectation, even if it's just an outline. Our planning is saved centrally so it can be accessed if somebody is ill.

Forward plans are done weeks if not terms in advance so technically shouldn’t be too much to do.

Oh FitBit. I’m guessing you don’t work in education?!

Grin Guessed wrong. Have been a teacher for over 30 years.

Blush Apologies! Surprised that you haven’t encountered this policy, though - it’s the case in every school I’ve known.

I've only ever really encountered it on here - I've clearly been lucky in having HTs who are reasonable! I would hope that more of them are trying to retain staff and therefore being a little more reasonable about workload, as well as looking at some of the underlying factors of staff being off sick (I know the OP's dh has a bug, but as a general principle).

My current HT's policy is, "Forget about school and get yourself better."

That said, lots of us do help out with plans/pointers as to what needs to be taught. But it's never demanded.
We work in teams where there will always be at least one other person who knows what's going on so can inform cover teachers. Medium-term plans are already on the system, and short-term for the week will be on there for Monday am.
Depends how ill you are really. When I was blue-lighted to hospital for surgery for a badly-broken leg, I was clearly unable to devise and send plans. But even though I was subsequently signed off for three months, I made the effort to get into school on crutches way ahead of time in order to help out with admin and so forth.
