To not watch Strictly Come Dancing?!

Chrys2017 · 18/11/2017 17:59

A very good friend of mine is mad about Strictly Come Dancing. She keeps inviting me over to watch it with her (I always decline) or if she's at my house she will ask me to put the telly on when it's on. I find the whole thing a tedious affair and have told her so—I've even gone so far as to say I can't bloody stand it. Now, this evening she's having a party with a bunch of 'the girls' so they can all get boozed up and watch it together. I've told her I don't want to come (actually I said it was nice of her to think of me but no thanks) and now she's miffed with me. AIBU?

I don't know a thing about ballroom dancing, I realise it's probably far from essential for viewing Grin but I wouldn't know what was good or bad particularly and am just not interested. Ballet is my favoured genre but I wouldn't like to watch a bunch of adult amateurs compete in that either.

BuzzKillington · 18/11/2017 18:44

It's very rude as a guest at someone's house to ask them to put the tv on.

I do not get the Strictly love, but realise I am in the minority.

At a party 2 weeks ago - it was all the women talked about. Very boring to me. Feel the same about x-factor and I'm a Celebrity too.

Crunchymum · 18/11/2017 18:51

I don't mind SCD but I absolutely never watch it in real time (I FF all the crap dancers and guff)

Any reason you can't go a bit later OP? Or does she make you down your drinks to the final credits and throw you out? It's over by like 9pm isn't it? Still plenty of time for a fee drinks and to have a bit of social time.

I'll ignore the ignorant comment. I am sure you didn't mean to be offensive????

Chrys2017 · 18/11/2017 18:57

I could have gone round later but she didn't suggest that—it was clear from how she ended the conversation that she was Not Pleased with me.
Apologies for the 'mental disorder'. 'Fixation' or 'obsession' might have been a better choice of words.

I have Aspergers. Obsession is my middle name - my current one can be guessed by my user name! I will cross hill and high water to watch or see what I want. However, at no point do I force others to take part and I am perfectly capable of using catch up so that I can go and do other things if the timing clashes. Your friend isn’t obsessed, she’s downright rude!

Beerwench · 18/11/2017 20:10

I don't get it either. This is the reason I spend Sat nights off/in alone rather than going round a friends or inviting people to mine.
Strictly, XFactor, the voice, Britain's got talent..... And the rest.
I'm accused of being anti social if I don't go when invited to these evenings.
No one ever wants to come to mine on a sat night for beer, nibbles and Dr Who though do they?! Grin

areyoubeingserviced · 18/11/2017 20:15

Yabu , I love Strictly

Ragwort · 18/11/2017 20:20

There must be a fairly big minority as most of us are on this thread, I have never watched it, have no interest in it but neither do most of the people I know or they just don't admit to it Wink). My teenager watches some of the reality programmes, I find them utterly cringe worthy and am just so embarrassed for the contestants - stupid I know as they choose to be on them. I find it uncomfortable even being in a room where a reality show is being watched.

Chrys2017 · 18/11/2017 21:25

Thanks for all the replies. She can continue being miffed if she wants to, then. As revenge I might invite her round to watch Dr. Who. :-)

I’m with @Cheeseandcucumber 💃🏻🕺🏾😂

CountessofGrantham · 18/11/2017 21:31

Forgot to say I’d rather gouge out my eyeballs than watch strictly but that’s neither here nor there!

Mac12345 · 18/11/2017 21:38

I love Strictly, but I'm more than happy to watch it on iPlayer. Doctor Who on the other hand, now that one I'm REALLY excited for! I lost interest in the last series but I'm excited to see where they go with this one.

Confused

You declined the invite tonight where they “have a party and get boozed up”

But then say you she makes you sit through it in silence as you are t allowed to chat.

So is this a boozed up, party in silence? Sounds like fun! Hmm Grin

Walnutwhiplash · 18/11/2017 21:59

WFT?!
Yoda, is that you?Grin

Chrys2017 · 18/11/2017 23:13

@LizzieSiddal Doesn't it just!! :-)
They will have been allowed to chat before and after the programme... Comments directed at the TV during the programme are also allowed, but nothing off-topic.

I don't usually watch the show but the shocking and blant racism showed this year towards black contestants has left a bitter taste in my mouth.
And to make it worse, the Daily Mails untruths and anything negative about Alexandra Burke has been relentless. For her to end up again in the dance off. Is actually laughable.
Now, they've started on Ra-su. Sad
