First off, this is supposed to be a cheeky fucker thread. This is not a thread laughing at people making attempts to cut back to save money. Just want to make that clear!

This thread is inspired by my friend I went swimming with yesterday. Our local pool does wrist bands that indicate what time you entered, so yellow for 2-4, blue for 4-6, etc...

My friend was very adamant we HAD to go swimming at the 4-6 slot. I didn't question it but found her insistence odd.

It turns out she had blue bands from her last swimming session! She had just kept them and not handed them in Confused

When we entered the pool she shouted "oh don't worry I already have the bands" to the pool employees. So not an outright lie but they assumed she paid!

It's a busy pool as well, so I doubt they notice she hasn't paid

I asked her why she did it and she said she'd paid once and if she could get in for free by keeping the bands, why pay?

any other stories like this?

My father also once said he went to a barbecue where the owner requested everyone bring a 'portion of coal' but I still think that was a joke (or hope)

I'm just going to put this out there in defence of SOME people who take their own food into theme parks etc. - I always have to pack a picnic of some variety because theme parks and zoos etc. don't always have a decent gluten free option. We went to Longleat in July when we were in the UK and the options were very limited if you're gluten free. We can't eat chips and crisps all the time! But obviously that doesn't apply to everyone :)

trinitybleu · 21/11/2017 07:04

Own food into Theme Parks is fair enough, especially due to allergies etc.

CF's taking extra food off hotel buffets to make a packed lunch to take into Disney as "they're not paying those prices" is not.

If you can't afford to go, you don't go. Would you steal cake from the National Trust Cafe, as there's no way it cost £2.50 to make?

Nettletheelf · 21/11/2017 07:05

The CF behaviour was nicking a load of stuff from the breakfast buffet after eating breakfast and taking that into the theme park, not taking your own food in because you have special dietary needs that the park doesn’t cater for.

Great minds, trinitybleu!

Someone I know told a garage that a dent on their car had occurred while it was in for a service (it hadn't; the dent was pre-existing), just so the garage would repair it for free.
I thinm people doing this is why my garage will call if they see something & photograph it before they do any work.

I had a call saying we want to let you know there's a scuff on your alloys when jt came in. I said i know because i thought I'd scuffed it the other week. They said they had people arguing the garahe should replace the alloys for free. Such CF!

AllRoadsLeadBackToRadley · 21/11/2017 07:26

Off topic a little, the car-dent thing happened to us. Our MOT was booked two days after a trip to the safari park. Try explaining to the mechanic that the small dent in the car is not their fault, but the fault of a rhino who wasn't looking where he was going, and accidentally brushed your car, and see if the mechanic takes you seriously! 😃😃

Cowshindtail - that taking of your eggs reminds me of another one.I live in a rural area where people leave out eggs, like you, also apples, sweetcorn, marrows, runner beans etc, when they have surplus crops. Usually on a table or box by their gate, with an honesty box. I know someone who would drive round and take everything that was on offer, and clear them out. It was then proudly brought home to his exasperated partner, who then had the same problem as the original vendor - surplus crops! He didnt take the money left out in the tin by others because 'that would have been theft'. He didn't see the irony in the fact he hadn't left them a bean for the items he had lifted.

Trills · 21/11/2017 10:15

I wonder if everyone reading this recognises something that they do?

If I'm doing an ASOS order then of course I'll order more things in order to go over the free delivery threshold.

I'm usually ordering in more than one size, so I already know I'll have to do a return.

I really don't think ASOS mind - I think they offer free delivery over £100 to encourage me to do this, because sometimes I'll decide "yes actually I do like this and I'll keep it".

I also expect that they make money off people not being bothered to go to the post office, and so keeping everything they've ordered due to inertia.

FrizzyMcFrizzface · 21/11/2017 11:35

Wow Karma are you me? I had to endure a horrible family argument in disbelief while DM insisted that my sister had paid her own way since uni ShockShock I know that not to be the case as my DF has admitted subbing her massively and bailing her out of all manner of leases as she flounced up and down the country pretending to study various useless art courses. So I kept quiet out of loyalty to DF Angry

She’s done the renting clothes thing too, many times, including to my wedding Shock. As usual the parents don’t believe precious little sister could be capable of that Hmm

I detest this behaviour. I will decline invites if I know I can’t afford to partake fully and fairly.

Blodplod · 21/11/2017 13:02

@Trueheart1 - I've just watched that so thank you for sharing. I'm dumbfounded at how heartless and cruel people can be. I hope he is recognised locally and gets grief over it - but knowing the type of person people like that are he'll probably just brush it off. Makes me so mad... I donate to food banks a lot (since being on MN mostly) and I would be so infuriated knowing the most needy of people were not getting what they needed because of a wanker like that..

georgie262 · 21/11/2017 13:05

When I was a little girl I used to INSIST my parents took me to church at Easter even though they weren't at all religious, because the priest used to give out a free Creme egg to the children at the end of the service

Blodplod · 21/11/2017 13:10

Regards Garages.. I worked in a small local independent garage and more than once people said there were dents in the car that had occurred during the service. It's very difficult to prove - even if you took the time to full photograph the whole car. We did however have a guy (embarrassingly a neighbour of mine) who bought his 10 year old BMW in and then said we had scuffed every single alloy (to repair them costs quite a bit). It would be pretty impossible to scuff every single wheel but he was insistent. Luckily we were able to show him the CCTV which showed the car being moved from where he parked it, about 4 metres into the service bay, being worked on and then reversed back into the space. For some bizarre reason we didn't test drive it thank goodness. The same bloke also said we knocked down a wall in his garden when going to collect his car. Honestly, you would never believe to look at this guy and see his house, meet his wife etc that he would be that type of person.

woodhill · 21/11/2017 13:17

I have taken the odd thing from the breakfast buffet like a piece of fruit or cake to eat later but have never stuffed my bag

Blodplod · 21/11/2017 13:21

Another one about a neighbour of mine. Her and her husband moved in, she booked two rooms at a local B&B for family members who were coming to stay - when I say local it was her next door neighbour. We live in a very rural road where everyone knows everyone else. She confirmed the booking on the day. The guests never turned up, she never cancelled, and never paid the B&B owner despite it being in the terms of agreement etc. This was her neighbour that she may need to book rooms with again in the future.. Same lady also got her car serviced just before xmas, the bill came to £700 - we made it a company policy to take payment before delivering the car back. When I phoned her to say car was ready she said she was in a meeting and it was difficult to talk and she would phone me back in 20mins or so, on that basis and the fact she lived opposite me I arranged for her car to be delivered back thinking she would pay later on that day. It took her 2 months to pay it - when she finally did she commented on how expensive her xmas had been... There's quite a few more about her but I won't bore! I find it amazing that people can be that brazen and cheeky on their own doorstep.. If that was me I would be dying inside and cringing all the time!

PumpkinSpiceEverything · 21/11/2017 14:23

If my MIL is getting low on hangers, she orders clothes online and then returns them, keeping the hangers.

cathyclown · 21/11/2017 14:32

@Pumpkin,

Many shops will give you lots of hangers free. Primark especially. I have loads, I ask nicely. I love their trouser peggy ones. As a matter of fact one assistant said best time to get them is towards the end of the day.

That's about a year ago now, so things may have changed. But I won't need anymore for a long time!

deydododatdodontdeydo · 21/11/2017 14:33

Hoppinggreen

Haha, your councillor, parked car story.
We are from the same town. I remember that. What a CF councillor Smile

socialmisfit · 21/11/2017 14:39

People who take food from the breakfast buffet so they don't have to buy lunch

I don't really have an issue with this.

But some of the other stories on here. !!!

TieGrr · 21/11/2017 15:08

The honesty box talk reminds me. We have a coffee machine in the canteen in work (about 100 people). Anyone who wants coffee from the machine pays 50p into an honest box which covers the cost of the beans, the machine maintenance etc.

A while back, a notice went around all staff saying that the money being collected wasn't covering the cost anymore and unless people started paying for the coffee they took, the price would have to go up.

I couldn't get over the number of people who must have been helping themselves to free coffee before this was noticed. It's only 50p and there's free hot water if you want to bring your own instant in instead.

MissConductUS · 21/11/2017 15:13

arranged for her car to be delivered back thinking she would pay later on that day. It took her 2 months to pay it - when she finally did she commented on how expensive her xmas had been.

The last time we bought a new car we asked if we could pay for it by personal check. This was our third car from the same dealer over 15 years and they did all of our service work on them. The salesperson, who we've always dealt with told us that they had to stop taking personal checks because they had sold a car to someone, his check was returned for insufficient funds and he was avoiding all contact with them. They thought that they were going to have to sue him, but then got the idea to tell him that there was an emergency safety recall that they'd do at no charge, but he had to bring the car in right away.

He brought the car straight in, at which point they told him that the car was fine and he couldn't have it back until he brought them a certified bank check for the purchase price, which he did later that day. This was a Subaru, so not a terrible expensive car, and he had no trouble paying up to get his car back.

Pretty cheeky.

MissionItsPossible · 21/11/2017 15:25

- They pay for normal tickets at the cinema and then, unless it's very busy, they sit in the VIP seats.

I do this!

To be fair I only go to the cinema once a year (if that) and well after a film has been released so there's never been more than six other people in the screening.

MissConductUS · 21/11/2017 15:27

I couldn't get over the number of people who must have been helping themselves to free coffee before this was noticed

A few years ago a medical facility I worked in installed CCTV cameras because of a problem with patients with dementia going lost or patients reporting things being stolen, which almost always turned out to be a case of their misplacing the items

The shocker was how much the staff was stealing from the facility, and they did it right in front of the cameras. The cameras were in plain sight, everyone had seen them being installed but when it came time to nick things everyone forgot they were there. Three people were fired for stealing large amounts of food (hundreds of $ worth) and one got sacked for stealing a $10 raffle prize that she hadn't won. These were good jobs with good benefits too. As my HR person at the time told me "People sack themselves".

TheAntiBoop · 21/11/2017 16:22

Stealing from the buffet ultimately leads to higher prices

Sitting in the empty vip seats doesn't change the cinemas income - if they were clever they would do marginal pricing depending on demand anyway
