First off, this is supposed to be a cheeky fucker thread. This is not a thread laughing at people making attempts to cut back to save money. Just want to make that clear!

This thread is inspired by my friend I went swimming with yesterday. Our local pool does wrist bands that indicate what time you entered, so yellow for 2-4, blue for 4-6, etc...

My friend was very adamant we HAD to go swimming at the 4-6 slot. I didn't question it but found her insistence odd.

It turns out she had blue bands from her last swimming session! She had just kept them and not handed them in Confused

When we entered the pool she shouted "oh don't worry I already have the bands" to the pool employees. So not an outright lie but they assumed she paid!

It's a busy pool as well, so I doubt they notice she hasn't paid

I asked her why she did it and she said she'd paid once and if she could get in for free by keeping the bands, why pay?

any other stories like this?

My father also once said he went to a barbecue where the owner requested everyone bring a 'portion of coal' but I still think that was a joke (or hope)

Some really awful stories here, but engaging nonetheless.

Stingyness and meanness have to be the worst traits in anyone. Avoid, Avoid those people quick, You have been warned!

My BIL and his wife photocopy coupons and weekly get a shop of around £400 for 50p. They travel all over so as not to go to the same supermarket more than once.
It boils my blood but the whole family seem to think it’s Ok!!!!!

CheesyWeez · 19/11/2017 18:42

Head of finance in my old company. The canteen staff used to laugh at him when he queued up to pay for his small bowl of help-yourself salad. They knew he used to hide a boiled egg under the salad. The boiled eggs were normally extra.

Same man, I was buying bread in a fancy bakery and he was ahead of me in the queue. He handed over a fiver and then looked at his change and said "Sorry to mention it but I gave you a ten pound note" Luckily the shopowner was on to him and said " No look, I don't have any tens in my till. You must have given me five" Such a CF.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 19/11/2017 18:48

Pea - my horrible Nana was like your MIL. We found out when she gave us a clothing gift for DS. It was too small, so I asked if I could have the receipt to take it back. She nearly wee'd herself!

"Don't take it back to the shop whatever you do! Just DON'T!"

It turned out that she was regularly shoplifting stuff - clothing, toys, food (and she was a wealthy woman - as others have said, this is probably how). When I said "But what if you get caught?" she replied that she was an old woman and she was on tablets, and she used to pretend she didn't know what she was doing (Yes - she'd been pulled more than once. Hmm).

We never accepted anything from her again. (She was pretty horrible in general and only bothered with us because our DS was her only great-grandchild - when my brother and his wife rectified that she stopped even offering)

maygirl27 · 19/11/2017 19:04

It would appear not, Spangles - but then people like this really don't know how to behave.

PeapodBurgundy · 19/11/2017 19:06

Shadenfreude She frequently comes out with 'I won't pay the prices'. It annoys the hell out of me! A) If you don't want to pay that price the shop is asking, you don't get it, simple! and B) The prices wouldn't be so high if they didn't have to cover losses caused by people like her! We're having to pay over the odds for stuff DS NEEDS so she can get what she views as a bargain on stuff she WANTS to get him.

It's not like she's short either! But ass has been said several times, this is likely why.

TheAntiBoop · 19/11/2017 19:07

I know people on both ends of the spectrum who are cheeky fuckers/thieves

The only difference between them is the justifications they give

I bet soft play woman mentioned above was complaining to her friends about how dreadful the place is

And then you have the ones who think they are so clever for having come up with their scam and everyone who doesn't agree with them is either jealous or stupid

GerrytheBerry · 19/11/2017 19:15

Was in the petrol station today saw a guy using jump leads on the car park to start his car with help of another member of the public, as I wandered around and got some bits and pieces (it's also a spar shop) I got to the till to note said guy from outside asking for a refund on the jump leads as he didn't need them! I'd just seen him using them! They refunded him!

Minaktinga · 19/11/2017 19:18

I knew someone who had bought a pair of shoes a couple of years earlier, when they were ruined, went and bought the same pair. A month later he took the old ones back and asked for a refund because they shouldn’t have got wrecked so easily, and the shop did it because he had the receipt! So in effect he got his new shoes for free.

dingdongdigeridoo · 19/11/2017 19:36

I know someone who used to do that Minaktinga. She was all smug about how Clarks will refund you if you ‘kick up a bit of a fuss’. She returned some really minging, falling apart shoes over the years, bullying the poor sales assistants into exchanges. Hope she’s proud of herself.

DagenhamRoundhouse · 19/11/2017 19:40

I volunteer at a local National Trust house and you'd be surprised how many people 'forget' their membership card. Sometimes I let them in with a wave, especially if it's later in the day, but usually we ring head office and give the name and postcode to check they're genuine. Also we are asked often for NT car park stickers and had to stop giving them out as some were ending up on ebay. (Worth a fair bit if you park near the sea or a town.)

ChickenlessHead · 19/11/2017 19:52

Oh God minak that reminds me of an ex of mine - he had a pair of deck shoes from m and s. Once a year he would go into the shop wearing them, pretend to try on another pair, put his old ones back on the shelf and walk out wearing the new pair. He thought he was a genius. He is also the richest person I have ever known.

HeatherWeather · 19/11/2017 19:59

CruCru from page 1 (haven’t read further than that yet)

This reminds me of fil & dp! They have a thing about paying on car parks! They will do anything to try and get out of paying.

I’m talking things like festivals. Dp & I went to a music festival last year and he went the opposite way to the the youngsters in the bright visibility vests, who were guiding drivers where to go! He parked up, put a note on the windscreen and got away with it. It was £10 to park all day or something similar. I was mortified and annoyed with him!

Does my bloody head in!

Fil will park a mile away to the hospital rather than pay any charges.

HunterofStars · 19/11/2017 19:59

Where I used to work, the boss who was a complete cow had a parking pass which was a management perk and only supposed to be used during Mon to Fri between 9am and 5pm. She and her partner went on holiday for 3 weeks and parked her car using her parking pass for the whole time she was away. She got away with it too.

HunterofStars · 19/11/2017 20:08

Oh and we held a secret santa and everyone had to bring someone a gift. Cowbag manager turns up empty handed and got a secret santa gift. The person who she was supposed to have got a present for got nothing. My friend was outraged and said that if she wasn't prepared to join in then she shouldn't have got a present. Fortunately the person who organised it cocked up and someone got two gifts so they gave one to the recipient who got nothing.

Everyone else bought a round that evening except manager who was happy to accept drinks from others but didn't buy anyone a drink all evening.

At our local Tesco express where my son works pt, often members of a certain group of people come in and blatantly steal. They often come in wearing pjs dressing gown, walk up gather some bacon, eggs, bread and milk and then just walk out. The police do not deal with them appropriately and so now they feel entitled and the young staff are powerless. It really makes my blood boil when they bring children in and ‘train’ them up in store. It’s a staggering lead by example

goose1964 · 19/11/2017 21:02

used to work for a lovely company who used to foot the bill for a local awards day. think awards, half day out, meal hotel overnight rooms etc. one year we were left in the bar for a hour and were told to charge our drinks. on the following monday we were all called int the manager's office and asked what we had been drinking.whilst most of us had drunk a couple of beers or glasses of wine a group of about 5 had been drinking triple jack daniels and coke and the bill for around 20 of us was over 2 grand. the next year they supplied pitchers and bottles of wine only

DesertSky · 19/11/2017 21:09

A friend told me she’d gone I to well known food chain who do takeaways. Her husband placed a family sized order but they didn’t take the money at this point for whatever reason (something to do with the till) and when their food order was called, she collected it and walked away without paying. She told me it was their problem as they hadn’t asked her to pay for it!

Hoppinggreen · 19/11/2017 21:28

Hunter here's a story about another cf who did similar but got his cummupance!!!
In our town local councillors are allowed to use the Station car park in the Town centre for free with a pass. One CF stuck his car there and caught the train to the airport for a 2 week holiday . Unfortunately he forgot about the food festival that was due to start the weekend he came back that was being held on the car park, meaning it was closed
Obviously CF's car was there and so they built a barricade around his car and set up the stalls around it so when he got back his car was stuck there for another week. Even better the local paper picked up the story and there was a bit of an out cry - he had to make a public apology and I think eventually had to resign
There are now restrictions on how the Councellors can use their passes!!

hks · 19/11/2017 21:29

I work for a major retailer and I am the one that investigates the complaints in clothing.

A CF damages a zip or a seam and send it back for a refund. I have to do a full investigation at store, depot, shipping and production level to see where the fault lies.

If it’s a problem with make up, the person who stitched the item will be investigated (they will be retrained unless they are obviously sabotaging garments). That person won’t be on a lot of money compared to us and they are usually the primary earners. In many factories (not ours but companies I’ve worked for) they are paid by piece. They don’t get paid for that retraining and they aren’t earning whilst they are doing it.

These CFs fucking infuriate me. I was at an event recently with someone who was boasting about damaging things and taking them back. I went into full on lecture mode. I couldn’t stop myself. You’re not just stealing from the retailer, you’re stealing from everyone down the supply chain.

TheAntiBoop · 19/11/2017 21:43

How did they respond?

OoohSmooch · 19/11/2017 22:01

When I was pregnant earlier this year and last year we went out to dinner with our usual friends but sometimes another couple would come too, they'd order lots of alcoholic beverages in excess of what others were ordering and then were the first to say "shall we just split the bill?".....

Twice I had to say no. Really annoyed me as I'm always very aware if there's a non drinker/designated driver in the party when I'm ordering alcohol at a restaurant.

It happened again with them when we had a night out post baby and my husband was the driver as we had to pick the baby up from my parents in law after. They asked again if OK to split the bill but asked him out of my earshot and he said yes fine, he paid double for what he had....I wasn't very happy! I felt like I had been cheap for kicking up a bit of a fuss about it but then I realised that they were being cheap by trying to get us to pay for their alcohol so I didn't feel bad for too long, especially as they were serial offenders!
