AIBU to ask for stocking ideas

This is a backwards problem...

I work in a toy store and get a hefty discount (30%) so my biggest problem this year will be not overdoing it.

DS (19, but a Lego fanatic) has asked for a specific large Lego set, and DD (12) would like a games console (PS4).

So, that is them done. Do you have any ideas about small items I can put in their stockings?

Mine are still small so unsure what 19 year olds are into nowadays but you could put in smaller sets of lego perhaps, (I had fun making the Bugatti car the other day. Hope his stocking's a big 'un!), Or usual stuff - stationery, toiletries, a decent book, top up, a new phone charger/computer accessories, money, socks etc - whatever you know is needed.

12 year old - extra ps4 game, cinema tickets or giftcard, a good book, stationery incl art and crafts stuff, hair accessories, cosmetics, new headphones, toys of whatever she is into.

I'd visit website of the toy store you work at and tick off things of interest. Then any extras you could shop around for.

At similar ages, I'm doing toiletries (especially things they don't have everyday like face pack, bath bomb), undies, chocs and a magazine or book. Maybe one or two silly things like a whoopie cushion.

EmilyChambers79 · 17/11/2017 06:39

Toiletries, keyrings, cinema tickets, Christmas theme jar of small Nutella, sweets, bath bombs, alcohol miniature (obviously not for 12 year old) satsuma, annual/book, hair bobbles, make up, socks, gift vouchers.

AmeliaFlashtart · 17/11/2017 07:01

Sugar mice, satsumas, hair grips, nail polish, travel checkers, travel chess, lip balm, bath bomb, tattoo transfers, false eye lashes, stick on nails.

lalaloopyhead · 17/11/2017 07:04

I usually go with a combination of festive socks, toiletries/cosmetics, stationery and sweets/chocolate.

Are you aware there's a Christmas topic, and lots of threads with lots of ideas?

I know it's a little bit more effort for you to look in the topic, but I think YABU to start (yet another) duplicate thread. Not because duplicate threads are wrong (they're an MN norm, really) but because in this case it's counterproductive as recommendations end up scattered when they could be more helpful together.

ghostyslovesheets · 17/11/2017 08:27

I go to Poundland for some bits ( make up brushes, bath bombs, hair towels, nail sets, picture frames ) and also Tiger, Paperchase and Wilkos for nicer bits such as key rings, pens, stationary and silly things (grow your own unicorn 🦄)

ghostyslovesheets · 17/11/2017 08:28

Oh also undies are always appreciated

SisyphusHadItEasy · 17/11/2017 23:48

Thank you to all of the helpful responses, and to Rose , I am honoured that you took the time to respond to this thread. I am sure your MN police badge is nice and shiny.

AuntieBeast · 18/11/2017 00:37

The LEGO fanatic is easy —just look for small sets and accessories in the themes he collects. Maybe an iTunes card or similar to round things out?

For your 12yo I would think about her favorite books/TV shows/films (or video games!) and get some accessories for her fandoms. She'll be over the moon most likely.

Dancinggoat · 18/11/2017 01:02

Gift voucher for the cinema, students here cost £3.
19yr old a miniature bottle of alcohol.
Lush shower gel
Pants

PomBearWithAnOFRS · 18/11/2017 04:31

If he likes Lego Superheores, I got some tiny figures on eBay last year, with about 15 different ones in each pack for about a tenner. The only thing is, they might not arrive in time now as far east delivery dates are now extended past Christmas, but if he's 19 I don't suppose he'd mind Grin
Or just trolley dash Home Bargains or B&M - they have loads of lovely things you don't realise you need until you see them Grin

weaselwords · 18/11/2017 10:51

Mine like losing their in-ear headphones a lot, so those make good “little” presents (too expensive to be true stocking fillers). Also memory sticks in silly shapes.

PodgeBod · 18/11/2017 11:36

YABU to get a 30% discount when the toy shop I work in only gives 20% EnvyGrin

SisyphusHadItEasy · 19/11/2017 15:36

I was gobsmacked to learn it is 30%. Even more astounded to discover that includes Lego.

Someone is getting the Saturn V rocket for Christmas.
