Hiya. Live in the Channel Islands but mum is going to Southampton hospital for an operation.

Would like to find a b&b near hospital (cheap n cheerful) either walking distance or a cheap taxi fare for dad to stay in for two nights whilst mum in hospital.

Sorry to post in aibu - it’s for traffic.

Wanted personal experience as Google not always truthful about distances Grin and I’ve only ever been to England once so not very good with these things.

Thanks in advance Flowers

The Health Information Exchange know all about what it’s possible to claim for and not back from Social Security and also the various pitfalls for Channel Islands residents that might not occur to a UK resident such as travel insurance

Lots of good suggestions here, I live in Southampton so feel free to pm me for specific info. I'd suggest aiming for a B&B in Shirley. Buses to the general hospital from Shirley High Street are frequent. Someone suggested a place in Anglesea road which is about 10-15 minutes walk to the general. Southampton parkway station is the airport train station and one stop from Southampton central, the main station. Taxis FROM the airport to Southampton are a complete rip off with hiked prices so I always get the train if I'm not being picked up.

Can't vouch as never stayed in them but here are a couple if B&Bs in Shirley, good location for hospital.
Alacantra Guest house, Howard Road, Shirley. 02380 332966.

The Mayfair guest house, Languard road, Shirley. 02380 229861.

The premier Inn at Nursling only does Breakfast not evening meals or lunches I'm reliably told. People are expected to go to the nearby pub.

Southampton general yes.
Sorry didn’t realize there was more than one. Blush

Loosewoman thank you - we have that side of it all covered Grin for persons accompanying patients they give a grant per night towards accommodation but you can book where you like.

Thank you all so much for your help. I’m going to send my dad all of the ones suggested and see what he wants to do Grin
