To keep dd off school tomorrow?

Dd (10) has been off school for a couple of days with a virus.
I have just found out that 1/8 school were off today with a d and v virus (not what dd had). More sent home during the day inc. teachers.
I am immuno surpressed, and if I get a d and v bug will end up in hospital.
AIBU to keep her off school for one more day in the hope that it will help her (and, therefore, me) avoid it?

Obviously it’s only one day, but then it’s the weekend too. I will have to miss a day off work tomorrow if she’s doesn’t go in as no childcare. But would miss a lot more if I ended up in hospital because of d and v.
Argh. Don’t know what to do for the best. Wwyd?

Day off, if it's going around and your daughter has a weakened system as it is, she'll likely get it and be off for much longer.
A fresh start on Monday is what id do Smile

Wolfiefan · 16/11/2017 16:56

Will you keep her off every time anyone in the school has d and v? I wouldn't. Unless she's still unwell.
At 10 she's old enough to wash hands properly.

Dumbledoresgirl · 16/11/2017 16:57

I clicked on this to be all bossy and sanctimonious as I often disagree with people letting their children miss school.

But having read your post, I definitely think you should let your dd off school tomorrow. That sounds like one serious bug going round the school which would be awful for you or your dd to catch. Anyway, if she has been off with a virus, she should have a day when she is feeling reasonably well before returning to school. My mother, a doctor, always said that a child should be up and playing for a day before they were well enough to go back to school after illness.

Sirzy · 16/11/2017 16:57

As she has been off anyway I would keep her home for one more day

TroelsLovesSquinkies · 16/11/2017 16:59

One more day off? Do it and save yourself and Dd from catching it.
Sounds like half the teachers will be missing anyway.

JennyBlueWren · 16/11/2017 17:05

Yes unless it would cause you problems at work. If you've not mentioned she's better then just keep her off.

PizzaPower · 16/11/2017 17:06

I'd keep her off. As you say, one day translates to three so while there is no guarantee it's all going to help.

SisterhoodisPowerful · 16/11/2017 17:07

Definitely keep her off!

SleepingStandingUp · 16/11/2017 17:08

Day off. Its one day, still in juniors and will make sure she's better fully before going back. Will also hopefully ensure that anyone else who has it will present tomorrow PR over the weekend so Monday will be dull of well kids.

SleepingStandingUp · 16/11/2017 17:08

Or not PR

BrutusMcDogface · 16/11/2017 17:09

I'd keep her off too, without a doubt!

Glumglowworm · 16/11/2017 17:11

Do it

She's been ill, she could do without catching something else, if you're immunosuppressed you definitely can do without catching it. Hopefully the weekend will break the cycle of it spreading so fast round school

MollyHuaCha · 16/11/2017 17:16

Keep her off.

SillyBub · 16/11/2017 17:18

I'm an Attendance Officer at a primary school. I say keep her off too.

Fresta · 16/11/2017 17:40

If so many children are absent, and it's a Friday I doubt the school will be teaching anything important tomorrow that she will miss.

PotteringAlong · 16/11/2017 17:42

What will your work say about you not going into work because you're not sending your perfectly healthy daughter into school?

MaisyPops · 16/11/2017 17:43

Teacher here. I'd also say keep her off the extra day too.

If she has good atendance otherwise it's better to be fully better than back under the weather and then off again.

Just make sure she gets caught up when she's back.

Pygmypuffhunt · 16/11/2017 17:44

I'd keep her off for all the reasons mentioned above.

fannyfelcher · 16/11/2017 17:48

As a fellow imunosupressed person I agree totally and utterly with keeping her off. Very often i do not think people can grasp just how horrendous a simple cold bug can be to us. What is a sniffle for my husband/kids has ended up with me struggling with pneumonia three times in the last 2 years.

Once my daughter offered me a gherkin off her burger and I didn't even think twice about taking it off her.....then she thanked me as she had tasted it and didn't like it. I could have throttled her and sure enough, despite her being healthy as a horse I was delirious with raging tonsillitis within 36 hours, that took 12 days to get under control.

Keep her off! And @pottering I am hoping work will commend her on taking one day in an effort to prevent hospitalization that could potentially be a week or two!

foxyloxy78 · 16/11/2017 19:46

Keep her off

LemonRedwood · 16/11/2017 19:49

As a teacher, it's a right pain when children have been off for more than one day and then come back on a Friday - they've missed all the build up and planning for writing on Friday.

Keep her off for your health and her teacher's sanity Grin

ImminentDisaster · 16/11/2017 19:50

I'd also keep her off. Without question.

SureIusedtobetaller · 16/11/2017 19:55

Teacher. Keep her off. Sounds like a very nasty bug and if you end up in hospital that will be far worse than a day off.
