FFS.

She's crawling round the floor, exploring. I turned my back for TWO SECONDS. When I turned round again, she was sitting very still, and there was something in her hand. I only hoovered an hour ago, while she was napping, so I was rather Hmm about this, as I didn't think she could have anything. However, I approached her to check, and said "show me" and she held out her fist. Spider. Only an itty-bitty one (money spider I think).

I HATE spiders with a passion. So, shuddering slightly, I reached for her hand, at which point she shoved it, and Mr Spider, into her gob.

Please can someone give my head a wobble and tell me that A) Mr Spider is not poisonous, and B) She does not require medical attention.

She's 1.

Rebeccaslicker if it bites you and you get ill it's venomous, if you bite it and you get ill it's poisonous.

SendintheArdwolves · 16/11/2017 15:04

This just means you have an extremely badass daughter. Congrats Grin

But don't worry - apparently shoving everything they can find into their mouth is something they all do and it's totally fine and (in fact) beneficial. Something to do with getting the right bacteria into their gut flora. Also the same reason they all go through that (pretty gross) phase of wanting to do wet, open-mouthed kisses on the mouth.

Rebeccaslicker · 16/11/2017 15:04

Christ, talk about damned if you do and damned if you don't!!

PutTheBunnyBackInTheBox · 16/11/2017 15:07

Can she come round here? Between her and the cat I'll be sorted Grin

Gingernaut · 16/11/2017 15:08

There's a difference been venomous and poisonous.

Venomous things have an apparatus to administer poison. Spines, fangs or stingers.

Poisonous things are toxic to consume.

EdmundCleverClogs · 16/11/2017 15:20

Things my child has eaten:

Sudocreme

An old piece of toast he had 'saved for later' (and also showed up my cleaning skills)

Random bits of fluff

A large handful of marmite out of the jar (his father's fault, was dipping breadsticks and not paying attention).

Worst thing my child has attempted to eat:

Dog poo (we didn't go back to the park for a long time)

His own clothes/socks

A slug

Things my child won't eat:

Most fruit and vegetables Hmm.

He hasn't attempted spiders yet. Do you think she already had eaten a fly, and was just trying to deal with the situation like the old woman? You'll know if she starts going after a bird....

My son ate one at a similar age. He's 8 now and suffering no side effects.

kakiqueen · 16/11/2017 15:22

My son (then aged about 15 months) once found a dead mouse in a vase of dried flowers at my ex MIL' S house.
By the time I realised what he was up to, he had pulled some tufts of fur off it and had stuffed them into his mouth.
It still give a me the creeps to think about it.
He's now a strapping 11 year old, so I'm guessing no harm came to him Grin

PinkyBlunder · 16/11/2017 15:25

My mother always used to tell me that I ate worms fresh out the ground as a toddler.

I don't think there's anything my own child hasn't eaten. Which has on 2 occasions resulted in a trip to A+E Hmm

If you hate spiders you should totally embrace this. Train her up to remove them for you!

KrayKray00 · 16/11/2017 15:27

I’m so sorry to hear about this but I am having a shitty day and this thread really has made me giggle!

I hope your daughter is ok and doesn’t turn into spider woman!!

Yeeeha · 16/11/2017 15:27

If you think you haven’t swallowed loads of flies and spiders in your life you are wrong.

Hope this helps.

DorisDangleberry · 16/11/2017 15:28

My grandmother once swallowed a spider. Things escalated and she sadly passed away. The horse survived though.

monkeyfacegrace · 16/11/2017 15:28

I had a HUGE spider dead, floating in the dogs water bowl one evening. I forgot, so it stayed there.

Saw it again in the morning while running around getting older kids ready for school, by now it had gone water logged and yucky, and in that closed hand pose dead monsters go into.

Anyway, was busy making packed lunches, popped my head round the wall to check the newly crawling baby, and she's sat there with one leg stuck to her lip.....

x2boys · 16/11/2017 15:31

Apparently so the story goes my uncle pulled apart a dead frog and was happily eating before his mum my grandma found him he was about three hes nearly 70 now so I guess it didn't ring in much harm .

x2boys · 16/11/2017 15:32

Do him *

Nousernameforme · 16/11/2017 15:37

No insects here but he did put his face in the Christmas tree and bite a bulb off 2 years on and i'm still not having lights on the tree

SacharissaCripslock · 16/11/2017 15:40

I've only managed to read part of this thread as it's too horrifying but I just wanted to glare at SacharissaCrisplock. 😈

frami · 16/11/2017 15:43

My son ate a woodlouse. He also sampled cat food on a visit to Grandmas. He's now a tall, fit and healthy 27-year-old. Funny enough he was my "fussy" eater and still not the most adventurous of people food wise. Smile

TraceyBond · 16/11/2017 15:45

Poor spider

SacharissaCrisplock · 16/11/2017 15:50

Muahahah you must be my evil twin Sacharissa (or maybe I am)

purpleweasel · 16/11/2017 15:51

EdmundCleverClogs that made me snigger at my desk!

brasty · 16/11/2017 15:59

This is normal OP.

DO3271 · 16/11/2017 16:57

My daughter who was 1 at the time ate a whole small snail, shell and all. Grinned through out and then went to eat another one. I got to her before that happened! The crunching will forever haunt me...
