Bed delivery

I have ordered a new bed and arranged delivery for next week.

The delivery confirmation email says that the bed will be delivered to my doorstep and won't be taken upstairs.

Is this normal nowadays? I won't be able to carry a divan bed up the stairs on my own.

Most people surely have their bedrooms upstairs - do companies seriously expect customers to carry the beds upstairs?

I got a new bed in April. Delivery men took it right into the bedroom put it where I wanted and put the divan together. No extra cost

We had a new bed delivered last week- double ottoman divan. The chaps took it and the mattress upstairs.

Ikea only delivered my furniture to the end of my garden path (which fortunately is only 1 meter from the front door). Was still a pita tho.

Dedicated furniture shops will usually have their own staff who deliver to the bedroom, unpack and assemble a bed. Online shops and catalogues use couriers who won't do this.

You have to check their policy when ordering IME and make sure that their delivery people are properly trained to move and handle large furniture, rather than just a courier.

I learnt this the hard way when I bought a mattress from a different company who also used Arrow XL. They refused to take the mattress upstairs (despite the company previously promising that they would) and left me with a super king mattress propped in the hallway at 7am. I ended up calling around the local removals firms, and got a couple of guys to come and move it for me. When I complained the mattress company refunded a portion of the mattress cost to reimburse me.

Conversely, the Loaf guys who delivered the bed took it to the bedroom and built it for us. John Lewis do the same, and remove all of the packaging.

John Lewis delivered mine to the relevant room. They also assembled the divan for me when I asked nicely.

However, I have moved house and with two people a divan would be quite manageable. Take the drawers out if they exist and then the hardest part will be the mattress. Hopefully if you ask nicely they will deliver to the right room :)

If it's just the base you'll be fine they are very lightweight it's the mattress that might be the issue for you.

I had Bensons for beds attempt to leave my mattress wedged halfway up the stairs saying 'won't go up we're leaving it here'

I had to actually show them (they wouldn't take my word) the exact same mattress the company had successful taken upstairs to another room 2 weeks earlier.

If it's not included in the delivery then I agree with PP bung them a couple of quid.
