AIBU to turn my phone off?

I have a computer and a landline and check emails regularly, so do I really need it on if I'm in the house anyway?

thinking of giving up my iPhone addiction
would I be U to just not have a smartphone at all and get one of those little Nokia 3310s to check in on the kids etc. when out?

Could you live without your phone?

I've got a "not-a-smartphone" and it is fine. Like you, I have a landline and a laptop and don't feel the need for anything else. If I'm out and about I can text or call if needs be, but mostly my phone sits in the kitchen and is ignored all day!

Also my phone is VERY cheap...I put £10 of credit on it every three months or so.

I don't have a smartphone - I really don't see the need. My phone can quite easily go in a coat pocket and then I forget about it for 2 or 3 days as well.

I very rarely used my mobile phone when I had one. I managed to lose it and I find I don't really miss it. I should really get a basic one so I can be contacted by school when I'm out and ring dh to ask for a lift.

I have an old smart phone. I only have a phone for when kids are in school or at activity and I'm out. School get very cross if parent isn't contactable straight away if needed and I don't want inlaws dragged out of work to pick my kids up if they are ill/hurt

BackforGood · 15/11/2017 20:00

Might be a good idea to tell people you are reverting to the landline and have your mobile switched off if that is what you are doing.

Allthewaves · 15/11/2017 20:02

Costs me £10 month for tons of data and unlimited msgs and calls. Also handy for reading books in kindle app

FuzzyCustard · 15/11/2017 20:03

Oh and the battery- life is about a week!

DaisyRaine90 · 15/11/2017 23:11

I genuinely have so much of a nicer day without it pinging all the time.
I look at my bank statement first thing in the morning and last thing at night which cannot be good for anyone!

I couldn't live without my smartphone because I to had to sell my laptop for food.

HamSandWitches · 16/11/2017 00:53

Yes I've got a 10 tiny black phone, you charge it once a month Smile, I gave up facebook for 7 weeks, came back on and missed nothing

pennysnow · 16/11/2017 01:01

I have a little PAYG phone - cost £15 from Argos with £5 free credit! The battery lasts 7 days, and I have a signal almost everywhere I go. My friends and family who have a smartphone, struggle like mad to get a signal half the time, and the phone seems to be permanently on charge.

I have had younger family members including my kids taking the piss out of me for not having a smartphone, and saying I am a dinosaur etc etc, but I don't care. I don't need one.

I cannot think of one single reason to have one. Not one.

DoesHeWantToOrNot · 16/11/2017 01:03

I might add, money is better now but I need my smartphone to get online to register for shifts etc. I would've used my laptop for that.

pennysnow · 16/11/2017 01:05

Hope things continue to be on the up for you @DoesHe Smile

DoesHeWantToOrNot · 16/11/2017 01:51

Thanks @penny it's getting there.

Vitalogy · 16/11/2017 02:05
