To ask how to lose tummy pooch

I had a c section 10 years ago and while I have exercised (though not as much as I should) and am desperately trying to lose weight - I can’t shift this belly. My muscles are weak around my stomach. I was skinnier a few years ago but even when I was skinnier I still had this stomach. I hate it! If I wear jeans I have to tuck it in basically and wear shape wear underneath dresses. I weigh 53kg.
So aibu to ask if you have had this problem and what you did to get rid of it?

Have you checked if your muscles are back together in the middle?

Foggymist · 15/11/2017 09:15

Is it loose skin/overhang or excess fat? If it's the former there is very little you can do to get rid of it short of skin removal surgery. If you seriously toned up your core muscles with Pilates etc it might make a bit of a difference.

@AnnabellaH I had physio about a while and he mentioned I had some separation. He didn’t elaborate but I’m guessing that’s not a good thing.

@Foggymist well, I think it’s fat. When I was skinnier it did wrinkle more if that makes sense. Putting weight on has kind of smoothed it out.

Be careful - if you have distasis recti then many common stomach excercises can make it worse.

You can google online how to check if you have it. If you do then there are programs and excercises you can use to reduce it and close the gap. Restore your core seems to get the best reviews. MuTu is ok as well

I have this too. (2 x Csec)
If I sit up in the bath from prone you can see where my muscles are still separated. this means my insides seem to fall through the weak area. not enough for a proper hernia and any nhs help but enough to make me look 6m pg still :(
Anatidae 'restore your core' sounds good!
I also have the loose skin issue. My area does not offer help with that. I have no idea what surgery would cost (or how safe it would be)?

Anatidae · 15/11/2017 09:34

Work on the underlying muscle separation first before you consider surgery. There’s a very good fb group for restore your core ( it is a paid program but some of the excercises are available through the group for free.)

In terms of dieting, if you think a lot of it is fat, I have found that the '8 week blood sugar diet' has allowed be to lose belly fat mostly. I think you should see a professional in terms of exercises though, other posters have good points.
