To be sick of dealing with Estate Agents?

Just found out we have lost out on a house we were hoping to buy, after EAs made it seem like it was ours, outright told us ours was the highest offer, etc. I don't understand why our offer wouldn't have been taken and when we asked they just say "the seller decided to take another offer". We have no chain, sent proof of deposit, mortgage in principle, etc. We even increased our offer slightly, despite being the higher offer already. I'm actually devastated, it was a gorgeous house on my favourite street in our town.

I didn't want to go in to meet their financial advisor until the offer had been accepted and I think that is the reason we didn't get the house as they hinted that next time they wanted to see more of us as "didn't get to know us" properly. I feel like I don't even need a financial advisor as work in accounts myself so I don't need hand holding to work out which bank is going to give me the best deal on a mortgage in return for hundreds of pounds.

AIBU to just be sick of dealing with EAs now? Weve looked at multiple properties over the past couple of years and I feel like you never get an honest answer with anything from them.

We’re due to complete on a house tomorrow (eeek) and I feel your pain. We were fed kids by Estate Agents, and felt the same re: preferential treatment over in house finance advisors. But finally we found an amazing EA. We were outbid on a house, they said they’d keep us in mind for other properties. One came in, before it went on the market we had first refusal. Absolutely loved it and put our offer in and it was accepted. The initial EA was a trainee, he looked a bit 12 (was old enough to drive lol so 18 probably) and couldn’t have done enough for us. Since then we have been treated amazingly, they call us to update us every step of the way, even called up today to see if we had a preferred time to get the keys from their seller and asked if we needed anything from them. Hopefully you will find some good ones. Keep the faith!

Fed LIES not kids, they really would be the worst EA Grin

Comethe We didn't find out till we were close to exchanging and noticed the surnames were the same! I then asked the EA boss who said it was legitimate, an offer had been made and we accepted. Arse.

It was a one office EA who have now expanded even more in my area and we will never use them because of that.

Estate agents seem to vary so much.

When we sold our house, we used one of the big chains... at first. They were showing the client around, and doing such a bad job. I can only assume it was a junior, but when asked "Will the seller be open to offers" , we had clearly told them "YES!" - only for him to tell them "No, I think the seller is looking for the full asking price" ARGHH.

Turned out that that agent had all the larger properties in our area on their books, and were using ours just as a comparison - "Oh yes, this property is going for "x", but if you are prepared to pay "y", look what you can get!"

Was with them for 12 weeks, not even an offer (they also broke our lock as well). Went with a non-chain estate agent, the person doing the sale was a LOT more experienced and REALLY knew what he was doing. Had a viewing after 2 days, offer 4 days later. A lot of too-ing and fro-ing on the offer, but I expected that. In the end - they paid more than they thought they could, we accepted less than we wanted ;-)

Long way of saying - find a local estate agent who know the area, and avoid the chains (if you can!!)
