My 14 year Old’s report has just come through. What the actual funch are all these flippin’ numbers? What do they equate to? I’m a reasonable person, but I’m not getting this system at all. And I know I’m not he only one! And if employers don’t get it, how will they now who to hire etc? Head is pickled with this, I can’t even tell whether she’s doing well or not!

Note the lack of direct equivalence for most grades.

I believe a large part of this change was to separate the highest achievers . So before the change lots of students got A (7) and A star (8) . now the higher achievers can get a 9 . Only 5% of the country will achieve a 9. It's a good change if your child is a high achiever

My sister did her GCSE,s in 1988 the year they first came out I did mine in 1990 I suppose there's always confusion for the first few years untill it becomes normal not helpful for the guinea pigs though!

And if employers don’t get it, how will they now who to hire etc? Are employers interested in GCSE/Standard Grade results. Mine are not even listed on my cv. My degree is there but I do a role so far away from that like chalk and cheese. Most employers want experience which is harder for young people.

YANBU. My little brother is sitting his GCSEs this year and we've all been to dozens of meetings about it and it still seems like no one has the foggiest idea what's going on. He's already decided he wants to do an apprecentiship rather than A-Levels but no one seems able to tell him whether he'll need a 4s or 5s for that
