NC for this but am RP. Honeymoon to Caribbean booked, we fly next week.

My mum coming to stay with the kids it’s a 2 week holiday of a lifetime. Really looking forward to going and it’s a 9 hr flight.

I am quite an anxious flyer and also have back issues from major surgery many yrs ago so we booked extra leg room.

Really busy as wedding is this weekend and tried a few times over the last few weeks to log in but have been unable to.

Got time today to call the company (we leave in 7 days) and we have been allocated seats apart and I am really gutted - they said I was unable to check in online due to them changing fro one company to another and everyone else has phoned up and checked in meaning these are the only seats available and if we want to sit together we would have to down grade to no extra leg room with no refund Hmm.

While this isn’t a third world issue and I do not expect “extras” because it’s our honeymoon I did at least want to be able to sit together.

Is there anything I can do? Sad

This happened to me on my honeymoon. Couldn't check in online, when we got to the airport we weren't sitting together. It was really disappointing as we'd saved up to fly business as it was a special occasion. British airways were useless. They left it to us to sort out when we were on board. A lady swapped with me as she was flying alone so was sitting in the same seat just the row in front. I know it's not a massive deal but when you've saved 6k for a honeymoon it's annoying! I'm a really nervous flyer too so would be anxious sitting on my own. Maybe someone will swap with you once you're on board?

'they managed to shuffle some single travellers around so we (and other couples) ended up together.'

I'd be furious if they'd changed my seat.

MrsMaxwell · 13/11/2017 17:27

Oh no Tiredmum that’s poor when you have saved for business class Shock

I wouldn’t want to inconvenience anyone else but if I was alone I would happily swap aisle for an aisle or window for a window Grin

expat me too unless it was a directly equivalent or superior seat.

kali110 · 13/11/2017 18:01

I wouldn't move either, threads like this are always split, some will however some people have paid for certain seats and shouldn't have to move.

ineedwine99 · 13/11/2017 18:47

Hi @expat, they called up single travellers and asked if it was ok, they weren’t forced to change, seat swaps were all equivalent.

MrsMaxwell · 13/11/2017 18:50

Tbh if it was a quick flight it wouldn’t bother me but it’s the Dreamliner and we were looking forward to having a drink together on the journey and starting the holiday - together.

We had this but they were trying to get my 4 year old son to sit on his own across the aisle and my partner in front of me and me with baby on knee. Apparently that's classed as siting together. We ended up downgrading so could be guaranteed to sit together and argued for months and eventually got about half what we paid to upgrade (which was about £400) back. Got a response from twitter pretty quickly. To be honest though as you're two adults not sure you would have as much luck as we really couldn't be sat apart like that.

mumof2exhausted · 13/11/2017 18:53

That was Thomson as well

mumof2exhausted · 13/11/2017 18:54

Oh and it was a 12 hour flight!

MrsMaxwell · 13/11/2017 18:55

Thing is if we give up the extra leg room seats I am pretty sure they will sell them again which is wrong - David and bloody Goliath Hmm

I've just had a look at the Tui flights. It says if you choose seats with extra leg room, but not extra space, then 'select your seat is included'.
So you should've been allowed to choose your seats when you booked.

MrsMaxwell · 13/11/2017 19:24

Ooh thanks for that moonamanda

Update - I got nowhere Sad

We booked via Holiday Pirates and were told if we want to downgrade we will not be refunded the £120 we paid for extra legroom, will lose the extra legroom seats on the return trip and would be charged a £68 admin fee Sad

That's shockingly bad, OP Sad

Fingers crossed for you at the airport check in desk. Sounds like your travel agents have really dropped the ball on this one

moonamanda · 14/11/2017 21:01

That's really rotten.
Dis you ask them why you weren't offered the 'select your seat' option when you paid the leg room supplement?
They've failed you IME.
The bag drop or gate will be your best bet.

MrsMaxwell · 14/11/2017 21:02

Think it’s a bit sad where it’s considered a luxury these days to be able to take luggage on a flight and sit next to your travel companion.

This happened to us,booked 3 extra leg room seats for 2 adults and a 3year old, tried to select seating 21days before flight and we were all sitting apart so called Tui and they refunded the extra leg room cost "As a goodwill gesture" and we ended up in 3normal seats together. Wasn't too bad but I definitely think if you're paying extra to choose your own seat you should be able to do it as soon as you book!

fluffydogs · 14/11/2017 21:18

It happened with us on Virgin, they had buggered up our booking and put DD as the lead passenger so we couldn’t check in as she was 12, they did the whole “computer says no thing” as it took 24 hrs to update after the rectified their mistake but when we got to the airport they managed to seat us together quite easily so it all worked out, it’s annoying when it’s not your fault!
