To dread going out?

I haven't been out without my DD since July. I'm only 24 and my friends think this is ridiculous, but I'm a single parent and though I have people willing to babysit, it all seems such a faff and I can never really be arsed.

But today I've spent the whole day cleaning and sorting (also painting and singing etc etc) with DD messing stuff up as I go. It is exhausting being a lone parent, and I just wanted to make myself look nice and go out and be me for a night.

I'm studying and I work and I just felt I deserved a night out. I've just found out abusive exP has got a girlfriend. He's in no way a catch and I'm glad I'm not with him but it's made me feel a bit rubbish.

But faff getting her up to her aunties, faff leaving - she cried a lot and I felt horrendous, though I'm getting pictures of her now happy as Larry getting spoilt.

Now I'm home, I'm just drinking wine and I cba to get ready. I feel fat and can't find anything to wear. I know I'm going to feel rubbish tomorrow. I feel guilty not being with my DD. I feel guilty spending money I could be spending on Christmas and things. Feel like cancelling tbh. Sad does anyone else get like this? Maybe I'll have a good time when I get out. It's all so much simpler sitting on my sofa on my own!

Hope you have a fab time. It's good for people's mental and physical health to go out, socialise and have fun, generally.

Good on you op!

beingsunny · 12/11/2017 05:05

You need this, your DD will be having a ball and it’s important to remember you are more than a mother sometimes. Especially if you are a SP, you are her example, give her bits of independence along the way, show her you are raising her, working and have friends who enjoy your company, let her learn to trust her extended family, and that you will always return Smile

AutumnTreesThroughTheWindow · 12/11/2017 08:45

Hope you had a great night.

I was a single parent at 24 (fiance got another woman pregnant when I was 5 months - classy).

So I understand the feelings well!

But you have friends who want to spend time with you and family who care about you both.

You are still You and not just your daughter's mother. It's imporatnt for her that her mum is happy and fulfilled too x

@Stormzy
What a smile you've put on my face this morning!
It's a delight to look in here and see that you have had such a great time. And a lovely friend and Aunt too! Keep having some fun while being such a wonderful Mum. Flowers

I agree. This is such a lovely thread and you sound like a great Mum. But you also need time for you. It sounds like your DD had a lovely time and from my experience it's such an honour and privilege to be trusted with caring for a little one whilst their parents have a night out so I think you should try and do this more often. And hey you've had a baby give yourself some slack. Your friend said you looked good and you got a guys number. Clearly not bad!! Go girl x

Wilburissomepig · 12/11/2017 22:41

You're 24, so young. You sound like an amazing mum and you SO deserve a night out!
