To become a chat line operator?

I love my current job but it is no longer feasible with my other commitments. I need night work but there is nothing locally. This is the only thing I can think of that will replace my wages ( I'm only part time anyway) and allow me to devote time to what is really necessary during the day.

Can any one speak from personal experience? Is it that bad? Any thing to watch out for? Any reccomended channels to go through?

Or mental idea that should immediately be scrapped??

Mumsnetters, help?!

A friend worked a text chat line when she was struggling. I think she preferred that because it was much more anonymous, no chance of a neighbour recognising her from her voice, and because it was text it seemed a bit more removed from reality. I think she had to send something like 2000 texts a month which paid £120 iirc (it was a while ago so that could have changed) , but could send more to make more money.

I have no experience or qualifications at all. I work currently in retail and previously as a cleaner.

There's no night work in either.

I'm nearly 30 and can't see my mindset changing much to regret it. I haven't definitely decided I will try it at all but if I do I doubt I'd regret it. I need to do night work and there is none. Sad

I've considered doing webcam work before, there are ways to hide your identity online.

CatTheMouse · 12/11/2017 08:53

What stops you Clary?

Cat I'm in my 40s now and regret lots of things I did in my 30s. I'm not judging you, I'd just hate for you to look back and loathe yourself in 10 years time.

How about supermarket night shift? Where I live people can work 12-4am stacking shelves and preparing online shops.

CatTheMouse · 12/11/2017 10:47

I've looked. We only have one supermarket in our town and they're not hiring atm. Sad

The next nearest after that are about 40 minutes by bus. ( I don't drive.) This was the only thing I could think of.

Don't do it. It will wreck your head

CatTheMouse · 12/11/2017 12:08

I genuinely cannot think of any other option though.

Would your partner support you in this idea? For some people it might be a deal breaker if they discovered their partner was doing adult chat stuff. Worth considering, because feeling the need to be secretive about this kind of work could mess with your head pretty quickly.

Twitchingdog · 12/11/2017 13:01

Have thought of blogging or starting a you tube channel. Something you can do during the day time . Sex worker stuff is evening /night work . You know when most men are home from work .

CatTheMouse · 12/11/2017 13:02

He's part of the reason I'm trying to find night work so I think there's an understanding there that it's important. I wouldn't be secretive.

My partner works until 11 each night, but I would work downstairs. We're soon to move to a 3 story house so I would have space two floors away from him to work. It's the day time I need free.

Have you looked into being a call handler? Some companies with 24 hour call centres employee people to work from home.

BaldricksTrousers · 12/11/2017 13:08

When I was in uni I used to sell well worn shoes on ebay and made very good money doing it. I would get certain clients who based on my eBay sales would privately get me to send more shoes and also tights, and take pictures of my feet, for even more money. It was honestly easy and good money but I don't think I would do it now.

Hi, just wanted to wish you luck, know how hard it is to find work that fits in around the kids. Have you ever been on themoneyshed. Loads of home working ideas, there, also very good support. You could be doing a few bits and pieces at once. Another good website is moneymagpie. Good luck whatever you decide to do. If you want to know anymore about themoneyshed or anything, please feel free to pm me. I'm not MLM or anything dodgey I promise, I do blogging, mystery shopping and the occasion survey. Also thinking about getting into ebay selling and have been known to do casino offers.

CatTheMouse · 12/11/2017 13:09

Violet, I haven't. Will look into it now. Thank you. Smile
