To be annoyed that a colleague asked if I was less clever after having a baby

I've just gone back to work after maternity leave, in a very male-dominated company. One colleague said to me, 'do you feel less clever, now that you've had a baby. Does your brain work less well?'

I just said, 'nope, it's the same!' Stunned!!!!

Baby brain is temporary, what’s her excuse?

Butteredparsn1ps · 07/11/2017 19:41

Nope. Your IQ is clearly higher than the taunt that said that.

I should have said, it was a male colleague who asked this!

I have heard this tripe spouted by women “I left my brain in x maternity ward 21 years ago”

A colleague once warned me about baby brain telling me “just you wait”

When the time came and I had returned to work he tried to suggest that my missing something he had said was evidence of this. I informed him in no uncertain terms that I just had less time and energy to waste on his bull shit

I was asked by a female colleague how come women return to work after mat leave at the same banding (NHS) ????
Seriously?!

camelfinger · 07/11/2017 19:48

It’s a rude and uncalled for comment. But plenty of women do go on about baby brain to excuse silly mistakes.

LemonysSnicket · 07/11/2017 19:51

Baby brain is a myth ... hormones, discomfort, lack of sleep all cause lesser cognitive ability ...women suffer longer because of the tolls of pregnancy but any new father will also stop being the sharpest pick in the box. Tell him to fuck off and come back on broken sleep.
