Amazon delivery in no packaging

Aibu to think items I have ordered should come in packaging!!!

Ordered the kids a board game, it came this morning via the postman with just a delivery label and various bar codes slapped directly on the box.

The kids have seen it so no way it can be set aside for Christmas. Because they have seen it it can't go back - we can't gift it to someone else as it has massive labels stuck on it!

I am really cross about it, it was nearly £20 which may not seem alot but it is to us.

Called Amazon and all they could say was they would pass it up to team leader to make sure it didn't happen again...

I am worried now that other bits a pieces I have ordered will arrive in the same state.

Not had this happen here, but one problem we do have is parcels being left in plain sight. It's possible then that it would not just be obvious to me or dc when it arrived but anyone in the neighbourhood walking past. It's more likely to go missing if it's something valuable or interesting, but what if it's something you don't want your neighbours or postal worker to know about? Can imagine that people order off Amazon because it comes in a brown box?
Mind you, assuming it's only the marketplace seller stuff so if order from Amazon, would still be delivered in (often) oversized box.

GladAllOver · 04/11/2017 19:43

Strange isn't it. On another thread there would be complaints about excessive packaging and waste of resources. :)

MongerTruffle · 04/11/2017 19:45

Some products give you the option of Frustration-Free packaging.

Topseyt · 04/11/2017 19:46

Are Amazon suddenly on an eco friendly drive?

I once ordered just a non-stick baking mat. It came in a box that filled my large kitchen table, with masses of paper stuffed inside.

Ask for your money back.

Aeroflotgirl · 04/11/2017 19:51

I've had that, a Disney bracelet making set, blooming annoying, it was meant to be a birthday present.

stardust18 · 04/11/2017 19:52

I've had that a few times with Amazon. One was a baby monitor I couldn't believe it, I've also had too much packing. I ordered some children's paints they came in the biggest box full of wrapping. absolutely ridiculous.

GladAllOver · 04/11/2017 19:54

On most Amazon orders there is an option box "Is this a gift?". I've never tried it but I suspect that would give extra packing.

Thiswitcheshatisnotmine · 04/11/2017 19:57

Yrs, this happened with a present dh bought for my birthday. I answered the door to the delivery. He was really annoyed as he marked the box to have. It in extra packaging and they didnt.

PencilsInSpace · 04/11/2017 20:03

I've just had this with a pair of pillows. They were delivered just in the branded polythene wrapper with an address label stuck on. I wouldn't have minded except the polythene had split right across the top as if they'd been opened. I took them in anyway as they looked OK but I was a bit Hmm

OnlyToday · 04/11/2017 20:06

DryHeave. Are you joking or did that really happen? If so where did you order them from?

Flutterbyeee · 04/11/2017 20:06

Same happened to me with a Cozy Coupe plus there was cigarette ash flicked on the box. It had been left outside our main door. I complained and got a £30 credit.

Hawkmoth · 04/11/2017 20:06

This happened to a school mum a few doors down from us, parcel delivered to our house. It was an electric nit zapping contraption. She sent her kids to collect it!

whyIsARavenLikeAWritingDesk · 04/11/2017 20:08

There’s actually an option to have whatever you’ve ordered sent packaged or not!
I am impressed personally that amazon have eventually given this option as the amount of packaging for the smallest things is just ridiculous

f83mx · 04/11/2017 20:09

Same as middle-agedmanic - came home tonight to find three parcels left on doorstep with a recycling box half pulled across them - no note, no email - and i did not leave instructions for them to do that - ridiculous.
Actually think the minimal packaging is generally a good idea - but obviously not for gifts, or tena

PencilsInSpace · 04/11/2017 20:10

Strange isn't it. On another thread there would be complaints about excessive packaging and waste of resources.

Yes there would, and I'd be on there grumbling Grin I've had some ludicrously overpackaged stuff from amazon in the past. Surely there's a happy medium though - the minimum packaging necessary to get your stuff to you undamaged and in a fit state to be given as a gift.

This is amazon. They're pouring unpaid taxes money into developing delivery by drone and driverless car. Surely they can work out how to pack things in a sensible sized box!

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 04/11/2017 20:20

People must have complained about the ridiculous excessive packaging amazon has been known for so then they went into opposite direction Hmm
I’m sure there must be a happy middle.

lololove · 04/11/2017 20:29

I like it when things come like that but it wouldn't be hard for them to have it as an option at the till so we could chose.

They do - you have to look for it though as they mention it in the listing and at check out you have to tick a box to make sure it comes in an Amazon box.

My kettle, slow cooker, steam mop and a few other household things over the past few years have come like it

BelafonteRavenclaw · 04/11/2017 20:31

Yes! I bought my DB a gift and it arrived exactly as you described. I can’t even peel the label off. I’m just going to have to own it.

teabagsmummy · 04/11/2017 20:41

They did this with my sons nerf gun that was for his birthday . Typically it got delivered just as we arrived home. I complained and they gave me 25% off it. They also offered a return but I needed it for the next week . My son never got a surprise and I was annoyed about it

Mollie85 · 04/11/2017 20:42

I had the same with a cake mixer- ok a bit different because it was a fairly large item. But it was a gift and they had slapped all the stickers on the box.

On the flip side I’ve had cd’s delivered in boxes big enough to hold board games with foam peanuts and that brown wrapping paper they use.

They seem to get it ok with books though... Grin

Goldfishshoals · 04/11/2017 20:43

'minimal packaging' isn't the same as 'no packaging', is it? I don't like oversized boxes, but I would never want an item with labels stuck directly onto it Confused why would anyone?

SistersOfPercy · 04/11/2017 20:45

There is an option on certain items to have another box. For anyone who has missed it, it's here at the checkout:

plimsolls · 04/11/2017 20:49

I use the Amazon App and it tells you if the item is going to be shipped "uncovered" and gives you the option to have it in a plain box. Most of the time I prefer items to just come in their own packaging- it's one fewer box to throw away, but I wouldn't want that if I were giving the item as a gift.

I had an Amazon delivery today. It had been left next to the recycling bins and when I tried to pick it up, the cardboard disintegrated in my hands because it was soaking wet 😠

buckeejit · 04/11/2017 21:12

I had this just yesterday with a science set! I've bought hundreds if things from them & usually there's much too much packaging.
