To find life a bit of a slog?

I don't really have anything to complain about. Lovely DP, friends, family are distant but fine, job okay. I go out and socialise a fair bit and while we are not well off, money is not a problem.
But life just feels a bit of a slog, interspersed with bits of fun. Do others feel the same?

Yeah, everyday life is pretty boring. I’m in the same boat, happy enough in most areas of my life, but when it’s monday and I’ve got a week of school runs and work ahead I just feel so blah about everything.

I just try to always have something to look forward to. Something that I can plan and get excited about. It breaks up the tedium.

YANBU! I sit at work, thinking there must be more to life than this, then when I get home it’s same old same old!

SilverSpot · 03/11/2017 15:00

I think that is pretty normal!

brasty · 03/11/2017 15:01

Yes maybe I am expecting too much?
I have had some proper hard times, but now everything has settled down, just feeling the slog a bit. There is always housework to do, everyone needs feeding every night, etc. Nothing big, just every day life.

Sounds like you need more energy maybe. More exercise! Smile

OverinaFlash · 03/11/2017 15:06

YANBU. I'm not ungrateful, I have a very nice life in lots of ways but, for example, last night, I put dishes in the dishwasher for the umpteenth time in the week and just thought 'What if I just didn't do any of this anymore?' Although I am having a bad day, so perhaps today isn't the day for me to ponder this question!

LiveLifeWithPassion · 03/11/2017 15:08

Yes I agree. Intersperse your life with more fun. It’s the only way.

Lilmisskittykat · 03/11/2017 15:19

I understand what you are saying completely your not alone, I used to think about this slot (wasting life youth etc) but when I talk to colleagues etc we are all the same with same day to day routines.

I think reality tv, Facebook etc now adds to the idea that we should be doing more with our lives, but I think monotony with odd event is reality for most.

dingdongdigeridoo · 03/11/2017 15:55

I think you’re similar to me brasty. I’ve had a really, really tough few years, so felt things could only get better. But now things have settled, drama under control, finances a bit better, I dunno. I think it’s just weird not to be struggling horribly anymore.

brrrfreeezy · 03/11/2017 15:57

Doesn’t everyone have times like this? You need a new project excited about - so do I, it’s that sluggish not quite Christmas but getting cold time of year too.

brasty · 03/11/2017 15:57

Yes I feel I should be really happy. Rather than getting fed up of housework, job etc.
Mind you my mum always says appreciate the boring bits of life, as that means everything is going okay.

I hate it when it's too 'nice'. Always feel that something bad will happen and then don't enjoy the quiet times, always on edge.
When things start to go wrong, I feel more relaxed.
Weird!

brasty · 03/11/2017 16:13

I need a project to work towards that I really care about. And to plan a holiday. Ages since we have been away.

a good holiday's always something to look forward to - agree, i've started volunteering and that's been nice. I don't really have time for it but i like that feeling of being a bit too busy, helps keep the bad feelings away!

cremedelashite · 03/11/2017 17:36

What did you love to do when you were a kid?

Thinkingofausername1 · 03/11/2017 17:58

Yes. Dark evenings don’t help either. Brew

MissionItsPossible · 03/11/2017 18:00

I think this too sometimes. It doesn't help that we now literally have the world at our fingertips and can explore anything and everywhere whilst in our own dull surroundings.

MissionItsPossible · 03/11/2017 18:01

Sorry for the unliteral use of the word literally Angry

SandysMam · 03/11/2017 18:20

I think you’re right. I don’t find life too mentally stressful at the moment (there are times when I do) but I find it physically hard. Getting two small children in and out of the car several times a day, having to feed everybody and figure out what to feed them (and then get it!) is relentless. Housework is endless and I even get annoyed at having to look presentable every day. Dull dull dull! However, I was seriously ill earlier in the year and spent time in hospital. All I wanted then was my mundane little life and to get back to pottering about my little house and going to Tesco’s etc. So now I try to hold onto that and enjoy the slog. Not always easy though.

creme Read and play outside with friends
