What would women be writing on here 100 years ago? What would have been their AIBU?
"I spend all morning whitening the step and my fucker of a DH comes back from the mine and treads coal dust all over it. AIBU to stop doing it, what would the neighbours think of me"
Or
"I am fed up of doing the washing on a Monday especially when the weather is bad. AIBU to do it on a Wednesday instead"

Anybody know the best place to buy laudanum? - really need to get DD sleeping through, she's three weeks old. All the other mums really recommend it.

brasty · 03/11/2017 13:32

I can not get rid of bed bugs. Any good tips?

shouldnthavesaid · 03/11/2017 13:35

Based on my family history :

AIBU to refuse to have any more children? Every time he comes home from war we have another and I can't cope. His parents are dead, mine are dead, my only sister lives three hundred miles away. There's talk of his sister taking the children for a while but she's a spinster with no children of her own. My nerves are shot to pieces.

(In RL she had 6 children plus fostered others - went into a psychiatric institution in 1923 or so and never left. The children brought themselves up largely and were often fostered out to his sister or to 'neighbours').

I find my corset too restrictive when working in the munitions factory. WABU to leave it off or would that be indecent?

JonSnowsWife · 03/11/2017 13:40

I'd say there'd be a post somewhere about a lemon drizzle mum, and then someone like LDW would be fuming someone had a better idea.

Only this actually happened in a school my DCs were in, they had a theme day, my LDW had even sourced down the flour that they would have used for that era, and was FEWMING when somebody else's crappier design won! Grin

I really do not want to have intimate relations with my husband when he is drunk and hits me and calls me useless because I haven’t put enough rouge on my cheeks and lipstick on ready for when he gets home, but that’s because I’ve been doing the laundry and my arms are so tired from all the scrubbing! I know I need to make more effort to look nice but every time he hits me it’s harder to cover the bruises and I look even worse so he gets more angry and the cycle continues. I know I have to have sex when he demands as a good wife should, but I’d like to enjoy it? (Probably wrong as a woman to enjoy it as such) but at least I want to be willing again. My parents say I should be more polite, not answer back as much and make more of an effort with my appearance to stop him getting so angry. AIBU to spend less time on the laundry and more on being pretty to be a bettter wife?

brasty · 03/11/2017 13:47

streetlife Don't you know? Only prostitutes wear rouge on their face.

streetlife70s · 03/11/2017 13:49

(Clutches pearls) bratsy you found me out. Do not tell my neighbours. They shall shun me and tell my husband some of the 12 children we have are not his Shock

streetlife70s · 03/11/2017 13:57

I just had a baby. I was in labour for four days and felt a little tearful after. I didn’t feel up to plucking a chicken for my husbands family to come for dinner the next day and told him so. He called me hysterical and the doctor agreed I am suffering from mental derangement and female hysteria. My baby has been given to the next door neighbour to bring up and I’ve been consigned to to lunatic asylum.
AIBU to think this is just a LITTLE unfair?

MargoLovebutter · 03/11/2017 14:10

How can I get my hair to look like Mary Pickfords?

AIBU to think I can be a suffragette and want hair like Mary Pickford?

I've had a tin of corned beef at the back of the pantry since 1910, will it be ok to eat?

AIBU to think that even though there is a war on, it is still ok to make a small cake for DD's birthday?

Can anyone tell me how to ride a bicycle?

sashh · 03/11/2017 14:25

Namechanged

I got the dreaded telegram with the black edge. As if that wasn't bad enough dh was apparently 'shot at dawn' so I won't receive a pension.

Should I go on the game or put us all in the poor house?

Willow2017 · 03/11/2017 14:28

My DMIL thinks this war will be over by Christmas, AIBU to think she is kidding herself?

brasty · 03/11/2017 14:33

My adult DD told me she is pregnant. Her DH is fighting on the front, and has not had a visit home for 9 months. AIBU to send DD to stay with a distant Aunt and once the baby is born ask the Vicar to find a good Christian family to adopt it?

TeenTimesTwo · 03/11/2017 14:38

AIBU to think that this plan of Balfour's to create a homeland for Jews isn't going to be quite as straightforward as he seems to think?

streetlife70s · 03/11/2017 14:52

Are you female Teentimestwo? If so don’t fill your head with such things. Leave that to the men and get on with your needlework. Wink

sashh · 03/11/2017 14:59

My DIL is expecting her first but with my ds at the front for the last 10 months I was expecting to be a grandma by now.

She tells me the dealy is due tot he war. AIBU to think the government shouldn't hold up childbirth because of the war?

TeenTimesTwo · 03/11/2017 15:00

Oh street The time will come when the Prime Minister of this country will be female, we'll have a queen on the throne who has outruled our beloved Victoria, and the leader of the most influential country in Europe (which won't be Britain) will also be female - all at the same time. And what's more, it will happen in our daughters' lifetime.

inkAdvantage · 03/11/2017 15:08

Complaining about men, teachers and cyclists, I assume.

2017SoFarSoGood · 03/11/2017 15:24

Heard the most scandalous rumor this morning. It is alleged that there is to be a women's naval group established. Will this endless tiresome effort to become men never end?

Whatever is going to become of this world?

Lweji · 03/11/2017 15:38

AIBU to be worried about the new developments in Russia?
They say they want democracy, but I'm worried their leader is actually autocratic.
I have in inkling they may want to expand their influence to other countries too.
I don't trust those Bolsheviks. Nor their leader Vladimir Lenin. In fact, AIBU to distrust all leaders called Vladimir?

brasty · 03/11/2017 15:45

I am pregnant. Can you tell me how the baby will come out. There is no one I can ask.

(based on my gran, must have been terrifying)

SpitefulMidLifeAnimal · 03/11/2017 15:56

brasty I think it comes out through your belly button. How did you get caught, did you forget to douche?

ShowerGel9 · 03/11/2017 16:35

Just cleared out DS's bedroom. I know the titanic sank 5 years ago but I have been in deniel...

ForalltheSaints · 03/11/2017 18:29

They would not be writing at all as the men would not allow them access to write.

MrsMoastyToasty · 03/11/2017 18:44

One hears that we are going to have an influenza outbreak in the next few months. Would someone be kind enough to let me know what remedies they swear by?
