I haven't opened it because it looked dodgy but it says a website I use has been hacked. It says that when I went on the site and clicked on a video it played a porn video and turned on my camera and filmed me watching it. It asks for money or else the video of me watching porn will be emailed to all my contacts - I'm not sure what else it says because I didn't open the email - all this was in the preview window.

Now it's obviously a scam of some kind but what should I do about it?
I haven't seen any porn - but I think I might have had a video that I clicked on in the last couple days that didn't work/didn't look like the video it was meant to be - might have been a link on FB??? or on here? Might be just me being paranoid??? Also where did they get my email address?

I've had a quick google and can't see this as a known scam. It was a long email but I'm reluctant to open it. Is this something I should report to the police? Is it a Nigerian Prince type email where they have just randomly got my address from someone else's contact list?

I think I should know what to do but I don't. Does any of you know?

@OhNoFuckADuck I know, scary isn’t it?
As for the camera being covered, Mark Zuckerberg has a tape over his...although he’d probably make a way more interesting target than us Grin
I’ve dug out the article for youSmile

Thanks for all your responses.

I was a bit paranoid in case the email itself contained a virus (even though it didn't have an attachment). Anyway full system scan says not - phew.

I wasn't that concerned about the camera - not much of any interest to see here and it did seem very unlikely,

Distressingly though I knew nothing about being "pwned". I thought we were pretty good at being paranoid about that kind of stuff but we have been getting masses of spam over the last year. When I checked the link to ihavebeenpwned (thanks @DandySeaLioness) I found that me, my OH and both DCs email addresses and passwords are on lists available to buy on the internet Shock.
LinkedIn and dropbox have had data breaches. There are a couple of others too where it's harder to see where the breach was.

How annoying. And aren't they supposed to tell you when that happens?

So now I am stuck on some bloody spam list Angry and there was I consoling myself that at least the spam meant people must be finding and spending time on my company website. Instead it looks like I will just have to accept being inundated with junk mail or change my email address. Neither is very appealing.
