Waterproof Coat for Girls

AIBU to think that girls need waterproof coats as well as boys?

Just looking online and Next only do showerproof coats for girls and waterproof for boys. I'll probably end up buying DD a boy's coat, but she's tiny and the cut is usually bigger in boys coats.

Obviously our little snowflakes don't go out in the rain Hmm

I know there are other shops and will continue looking. Just needed to get that off my chest Smile

Lots of places do waterproof coats wearable by both boys and girls. Hmm

The reason why we got the Mountain Warehouse long coat was - hopefully - being waterproof, showerproof. Also the long length was important since she walks to school in all weathers, covering the legs from rain-snow is important for her.

Thanks everyone I’ll check some of those out.

DD I has just turned 9 and hates pink, so definitely not looking for something overtly girlie, just something that fits.

It just pissed me off that the boys had decent waterproof coats with reflective strips etc. Nothing like that in the girls section. Hmm

Will go back online tomorrow. Thanks again.

Yup, I’ve also had issues with this. Outdoor shops are the best places to go, camping shops etc. Animal too had a lovely one in when I was last there.

OneWildNightWithJBJ · 02/11/2017 22:38

We get all our outdoor coats from Trespass (always on sale). Theirs aren't overly girlie.

Cockmagic · 02/11/2017 22:48

I got dds waterproof trespass coat from argos. 100% waterproof, breathable and windproof.

Also a bargain at £20 and in pink!

TheProdigalRhubarb · 02/11/2017 22:55

This pisses me off too. Also, on the other side of the coin, it’s impossible to find furry coats for boys. Why?? Ds loves fur (fake, obviously) so has a grey Zara Girls one. It is much admired by his friends - boys like soft things just as much as girls.

Another vote for mountain warehouse - they have got a good range of children`s waterproof warm coats in bright colours/patterns (not just pink) at very reasonable prices

Jaffalong · 03/11/2017 04:43

Mountain warehouse stock a fab range of waterproof coats for children and they're reasonable priced too.

We got ours from mountain warehouse on black Friday they were all 75% off. Plus as they go to cubs we got a further 5 or 10% off - I can't remember exactly.

They are totally waterproof extremely warm and wash brilliantly.

Pengweng · 03/11/2017 06:28

We love muddy puddles coats, especially the ones which are longer at the back so when they sit down they don't get wet bums.

springer24 · 03/11/2017 06:56

I’d stay away from the high street for proper waterproofs but yes it is very annoying! I’m sure it’s been done to death before but my biggest gripe is the absence of proper practical winter shoes for toddler girls - mine is currently in “boys shoes”!

FairyPenguin · 03/11/2017 07:02

Another vote for Mountain Warehouse here. DD has a 3-in-1 coat from there so suitable for cold and mild weather. She also hates pink so we often buy the ones from the "boys" section which are the same design but a different colour.

Dozer · 03/11/2017 07:04

Complain to Next on twitter or facebook. Sexist retailing.

Another vote for mountain warehouse.

TransvisionTramp · 03/11/2017 22:33

Thanks everyone - I think I’ll go with Mountain Warehouse. She wants it to be a bit stylish but needs it to be warm and waterproof for the school run, as we walk to school.

I did call Next out on Twitter but they ignored me Hmm

Another vote for outdoor shops. I get coats and puddlesuits etc for mine from Mountain Warehouse / Trespass / Regatta etc. Prices aren't too bad either.

JustDanceAddict · 04/11/2017 08:36

Think you need an outdoor shop!

megletthesecond · 04/11/2017 08:38

one yy, mine have always work Trespass coats. I stock up in their sale.

megletthesecond · 04/11/2017 08:38

Lesley1980 · 04/11/2017 08:44

JoJo Maman Bebe kids coats are waterproof & warm

MimsyFluff · 04/11/2017 10:01

DD (9) has this coat it's fully waterproof and the fleece can be removed so she can wear a jumper underneath it when it's not to cold then when it is leave the fleece in. We walked Hadrian's wall, it rained for the first three days this kept her dry but one of the clips that hold the fleece to the shell came off but she is known for fiddling and is an easy mend. She's not into pink girly things and loves this coat.
