AIBU?

Urgent what job can I do that will get me off all benefits?

I really cannot go on UC when it's rolled out in full in my area. I have difficulties with PTSD and anxiety, and it's not realistic for me to be able to deal with DWP and stay mentally healthy. I feel well if I feel in control of managing my stress, too much stress and everything spirals rapidly and I sink. I get housing benefit and PIP at the minute I need to get away from all benefits. The universal credit system has no rhyme or reason and is deeply anxiety inducing.

What jobs can I possibly get that would make me 100% independent quickly? Like not minimum wage needing top ups?

My background is doing things like communications and writing but I've never worked full time successfully so I know this is a barrier too.

It's okay, I recognise I have an extremely skewed friendship group! :) I work in a burn-out encouraging job and their lives seem to run on a very different schedule from mine, so I assumed that was the case industry wide when clearly that's unreasonable extrapolation.

No need to bring partisan politics into this is there Battleax

Report it if you think it breaks talk guidelines lurker.

I think it's pertinent myself. It's still worth people lobbying their MP if they disapprove of the inhumanity of the changes being rolled out.

What are you good at, what aspects of work do you enjoy? What are you crap at and what aspects of work trigger MH problems

Op no moving house will not cause your transitional protection to end.

Why would I report it?

Not sure if you want congrats for lobbying your MP, or if I'm supposed to be impressed, still, it doesn't warrant turning this thread into some partisan soap box

Are you feeling quite okay?

Stop telling people what to post.

Stop pretending there's no connection between politics and policy.

Communications writing - certain marketing jobs, internal comms, copywriting, PR will all value these skills and pay well.

If I move to a cheaper area under a different local authority that will end transitional protection according to CAB adviser? Obviously though they're only human and can get things wrong!

I'm already in the cheapest legal housing I can find in my area.

How about HA housing? Any chance where you are?

What are the best job sites for communications writing type roles?

Night work would definitely be an option I can be flexible. As long as I get enough time to rest I can rest at any time.

Prison work could be very rewarding I'm sure but I dunno if they'd even look twice at me as an applicant. I have no training as a support worker.

I originally was looking at support and advocacy roles wondering if I could maybe train on the job as an IDVA but they want a lot of experience and qualifications.

What about a graduate scheme? Aldi do a really great one but it is competitive. A lot of companies have fast track schemes for people with degrees.

I would consider fighting for your full entitlement to UC. Transitional rights should mean you aren’t worse off. The goal should be to find and maintain employment. Rushing into it before you are ready might mean it takes longer to achieve that goal.

I'm a bit too old for grad schemes, not really a bright young thing!

Probation Officer may be an alternative to Prison Officer. The Probation Office offers training, there is a shortage and it is rewarding. They may be more likely to choose someone who has overcome mental health issues than the prison service as it would help you empathise x

Just stepping in mid thread as a fellow anxiety sufferer.

May I ask what it is that scares you about the dwp? I have had dealings in the past on behalf of my mother and it was very stressful. It helped me to hold on to the fact they were incompetent and I managed to sort things out. Would you be able to have an advocate to act on your behalf?

Another question if I may. What work are you doing now? Is an increase in hours feasible? Could you step up from the role you are in currently to something with more responsibility? Wages aside shat would you like to do?

Without being patronising I think you are bloody awesome for working even part time. It took me ten years to be able to get back to work after anxiety hot a hold on me. It is now my sanctuary. I dontearn anywhere near 26k though.

Why would you be sanctioned for earning a lower wage? What does this mean in reality?

Grad schemes aren’t limited by age. I was over 30 when I got my degree and was still eligible.

Oh and I've just started an apprenticeship . I'm 47 with a PhD!

Don't even think about teaching. I did C S and taught at college and it precipitated a second breakdown

Try office admin Work ? To start you off
If you are literate and bright (and you sound like you are ) polish the CV in that direction maybe
Even if you start basic temping it will build confidence and experience

If you think it will be stressful consider some anti depressants to help possibly

No op this is what will end your TP
a new partner joins the household
a partner leaves the household
earnings drop below the earnings threshold in their claimant commitment for a period of 3 months or more
the UC award ends
one or both members of the household stopping work.
