To think this was a tad rude?

Yesterday was Dd 3rd birthday, dp family came over in the evening to give her presents. I opened the card from his Nan who was also there, and read it out to Dd. His Nan then says "tbh I still haven't got over her name"... Hmm I said "what do you mean, you don't like it?" And she said "yeah it's just a strange name" Hmm I did an awkward smile and she then carried on looking at me for seconds after waiting for me to say something Confused??

Her name is sophia btw, if she heard the names we are coming up with for Ds she would probably hit the roofGrinConfused

If she says it again just say: “it’s very rude of you to say so” and then smile.

Sophia is a lovely name

thecats DS is a Tristan and I've had a lot of eyebrows raised at it, but he likes it, so that's the main thing!

Not just me who is a bit Hmmthen! It was awkward the room went silent and dp dad was looking at me as if to say I can't believe she has said that.

I haven't got over her name? Like really? I thought it was such a strange thing to come out with even if she wasn't over keen on it, she's 3 now tooHmm. When she was a baby she did say "where did you get Sophia from".

@thecatsarecrazy very strange??? What on earth 😂😂 some people are odd. Nothing strange about that name at all!

Boys names, Dexter, Vinnie, Tate, Casey. I love them all, I know she wouldn't approve to any of those! Grin

Is it possible that she was hoping that your DD would be named after her or another female relative? Her disapproval might be coming from a place of lingering resentment.

I vote you make up a pretend whacky name for your future ds and have some fun with it.

BlackBanana · 02/11/2017 12:26

Great grannies can say what they like, I thought everyone knew that?

BlackBanana · 02/11/2017 12:27

She sounds like a silly old bat

Really? Aren't we past the casual ageism?

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 02/11/2017 12:28

If your dds name was Twinkle-Star, then. Somewhere a long the line, your nan might have a point, but Sophias are everywhere. I'm falling over them

When I told my mum the name of my PFB, she mulled it over & said "no, I don't really like it".

Err no mum, that is his name I'm not asking you yea or nay!

Mind you, my sibling was considering Joshua in the late 80s & she thought that that was a bit "out there"!Grin
