to think football kits for kids are a waste of money

DH went to a football match, came home with a home kit for DS. I'm miffed because we have previously discussed this and I consider it to be a complete waste of money.

I think that supporting the team he supports is expensive enough without forking out for kits for DS. It costs to buy the tickets, get there, stay overnight and all the food/beer he drinks when he's there. The kit cost £50.

I don’t see it as any different to a band T-Shirt. Or one of those Harry Potter T-Shirts they sell in Primark. If they like them why’s It an issue? They wash fairly well.

It’s personal taste.

Or a cricket or rugby strip

To clarify, only my DH goes to the match and that's only once or twice a season because we really don't have the money for it.

I find it galling to spend that kind of money on one outfit because I am so thrifty, I rarely buy any clothes that aren't in the sale/clearance and often buy finds in the charity shops. I shop at Aldi (our weekly food shop is barely more than £50).

I'm not knocking people that enjoy going to matches or buying the strip or whatever, I just don't see buying the kits for children as something worthwhile to spend £50 on.

My DS used to live in his when he was little. They're expensive to buy but cost per wear it was great value.

I’d be happy spending £50 on my sons football kit (for a birthday present). Although not actually spent that much so far, but have managed to get our local team’s full kit for about £30 or £10 at end of season. And £40 on Barcelona kit one year. DS plays various sports 5x week and I need to keep his actual football team kit for matches. So he wears his supporters football kit(s) a lot, it washes really well and drys quickly. He also gets to wear it to local matches as we support the local team, we get cheap family tickets (when boring games are on!). I could buy cheaper stuff but he loves his kit and wears it weekly so it is worth it. I now buy a football shirt for him every time I visit a different city/country for work, I enjoy the fact he’s interested in football as a whole and not obsessed with a particular team.
If you’re talking about kit for a baby/toddler, then I’d agree waste of money.
Match attacks - now they’re a waste of money!!!
