Complain about manicurist

Bday present - day at v fancy spa (lucky me)

Had a manicure booked first thing. Wandered in and the therapist said 'oh lovely you're pregnant'. When I told her no, she said 'oh just had a baby then.' Ahem. Also no. She kept digging. 'Oh my stomach goes a bit like that after a big meal'

WTF

For the record am a regular size 12. CS last year has left me with a less than taut stomach but...still...

So it left me for the rest of the spa day feeling a little self conscious, which is obviously not the desired effect.

DH, who bought the spa day, says I should complain as it marred the experience, but I don't know. It's not the end of the world right?

I get a swollen tummy at a certain time of the month. I'm only a size 10. No children. I plucked up the courage to go to a Body Pump class in my new area the other day.... the instructor says to me 'are you expecting?'

I said expecting what!Confused

I was embarrassed but did try not to dwell. I suppose the gym clothes aren't very forgiving.

I'd say something OP. She shouldn't be so tactless.

My neighbour asked me this. Looked me up and down sloooowly and went oh god again Ellen, when's this one due? 😡 My dc was 4months old. This the same bitch who thinks I want to babysit her brats when she wants to go get her leg over.
I hope you've emailed op. Attitudes like that can be damaging to business, it's affected your self esteem and you're hardly likely to want to go back or want to recommend the place to others after that

OP- if you were wearing a maternity dress I think YABU to be offended/upset that the therapist thought you were pregnant or had recently had a baby. She was stupid to keep digging when you told her otherwise, but that is all. I think it would be unfair to complain about her,

Roomster101 Do you know by looking if someone's wearing a maternity dress? I wouldn't have a clue...

Yes, I think I would know generally depending on the size of the person. I think it would be more noticeable if they were quite slim.

The dress was a loose fitting layered shift with a bit of extra material at the front- I don't know how much that added to the effect, I'm pretty sure my rounded stomach did that all by itself Blush

I did send a gently worded complaint and just received a voucher to use the facilities again (not treatment but the steam room and pool etc).

I'm fairly sure the dress had nothing to do with the bad attitude of the beautician Hmm

A woman in a shop asked me if I was pregnant, I was 6 days pp and I thought she was taking a chance.

You just don't ever say anything, too risky.

BlondeB83 · 02/11/2017 23:17

I would say what you were wearing means you have little grounds for complaint although I’m with the ‘never assume’ crowd.

BlondeB83 · 02/11/2017 23:18

Glad you got a good result OP and you can have a better day next time.

If someone was quite slim, the "extra material" front would suggest (to me) a maternity dress. I do agree that it was a bit thick of her to assume anything though.
