To stomp off in a huff at the Dr's surgery?

9.20 appt. 10.00 arrived, asked receptionist where I was on the pecking order. She said 'You've quite a wait - there are four people to be seen before you'. Given that these appts were with the nurse, and that each person was in there for about 15 mins, I thought the least they could do was to tell the assembled crowd that there would be a long delay. I mumbled something about babysitters and stomped off, only to realise I'd left my shopping trolley there and had to go back and collect it

Do you think she should have made an announcement? Or was I particularly ratty because it was a fasting blood test?

Anyhow, went back again yesterday and after 4 flipping goes they couldn't get any blood. So another blinking appt next week. Grrrr.

totally unreasonable but completely understandable

totally unreasonable

dh is a bugger to get blood out of. he can be in there for ageeees. much to disgust of other patients. so they do home visits now.

kslatts · 14/04/2007 08:32

I was 15 minutes late for a doctors appointment once as I'd come straight from work and been stuck in bad traffic, they made me make another appointment, but the often run well behind and it's usual for you to have to wait upto an hour past your appointment time.

I don't think you are being unreasonable.

Gingerbear · 14/04/2007 08:47

There is always a wait for the nurse at our surgery too. I think the problem is that appointments made are about 5 mins each, with no gap in between. So understandable if a delay builds up, but frustrating.

My real pet hate is the consultant antenatal appointments at the hospital (midwife at health centre never a problem).
You give your wee to a midwife, who then scribbles in your notes, then sit down for - ooh, an hour, maybe 2 until His Royal Majesty swans in and one of his minions calls your name. Trouble is, you KNOW he is there and apparently not at all busy from the time you arrive. If he had a major childbirth trauma to attend on the delivery suite, I wouldn't mind waiting, but he never does!

Bugger, I have to go back and see him again in 4 weeks time.

RedFraggle · 14/04/2007 13:02

I don't think you are being unreasonable. The first appointment can't have been that much earlier than 9.20 surely?
This winds me up too. It's not that hard to let people know an estimate of how far over they are running....

After all they charge patients for being late at our surgery but I am often waiting 40 minutes to an hour to be seen - what about OUR time?

I think if you've booked for a starving blood test you should have priority

MrsWho · 14/04/2007 18:33

I was at GPs yesterday and the woman in front of me came for an appointment with the nurse and was told it was cancelled as 'nurse was off sick, can you fast again tomorrow?' I'd be really annoyed but she seemed fine.Especially when it is a very large practice and have a couple of nurses and about 10 GPs, surely thye could prioritise the fasting people.

Oblomov · 14/04/2007 18:38

I'm a diabetic and doing a fasting, plays havoc with my diabetes.

If I got there to find it was cancelled, as in mrswho's case , I would be LIVID

LazyLine · 14/04/2007 18:38

My GP's starts their appointments at 8am and by 9 they are always an half hour behind.

Oblomov · 14/04/2007 18:40

LOL Lazyline, don't you just love it.

lizziemun · 14/04/2007 19:30

I hate this.

At my previous practice they used to make appointments for one doctor starting at 9am knowing full well she never got there before 9.20am as she used to drop her children at school first. I could never understand why they couldn't just make her appointments from 9.30am so she had time to get in and settle before starting rather then her rushing in and already being 30mins late.

I think doctors receptionist are a strange breed and a law of their own.
