Lost my purse and cards on a bus and there's no way to report it

AIBU to think this is insane?

Got off bus an hour ago. Instantly realised as it drive off I didn't have my purse. Purse has oyster card, bank cards, other cards, £40 cash.

Bus stop only has tfl number on. Their lost property is closed. Call the bus co Stagecoach and they are also closed. Police don't take reports of lost property.

Basically I have to wait until 9am tomorrow to do anything! How can this be right??

The two times I've called about lost property on the bus both times it wasn't handed in.

kissmethere · 30/10/2017 22:00

Full out the firm online and call them in the morning. Or go to the bus depot, lost property is usually there till the next day at least. I've had a few things back that way.

kissmethere · 30/10/2017 22:00

Fill out the form 🙄

MatildaTheCat · 30/10/2017 22:03

I left my phone in a London taxi and had to fill in the online form. and had to collect it from an office in Baker Street. And pay for the privilege.

All a bit annoying. Cancel cards and forget it. Or go to the bus station first thing and stalk them?

deste · 30/10/2017 22:04

You might be lucky. I handed a bag in today, there are still honest people about. I do hope you get it back.

MatildaTheCat · 30/10/2017 22:04

Hmm, some of my post got lost. It turned up after six weeks.

caringdenise009 · 30/10/2017 22:25

Did the bank refuse to cancel your cards? I've done that lots of times & never been told to call the police. And this morning I blocked my oyster online, and the option to transfer products to my new card was there, with a bit of scrolling and searching. You need to get your cards canceled asap if you've got contactless set up.

Stagecoachbusesareshit · 30/10/2017 23:29

No the bank cancelled the cards. But they asked how I'd been lost and when I said I'd left them on a bus, realised 30 seconds after I got off but that there was no way to contact the bus company they told me to report to police. As did tfl.

Tfl also said as it's a separate company there probably wasn't much point completing online form, as Stagecoach will have their own process. But I can't find out what that is as they're shut until 9am. By which time I have to be at work.

I was sitting abput 6ft from the driver. Had there been a quick way to contact the depot they could have radioed him and it could have been picked up in minutes. Quite possibly before anyone had chance to steal it.

The cards are cancelled. I'm not bothered about that. I'm more bothered about the cash and other stuff that was in there (gift cards, receipts I need to cIaim back as expenses, gym card and work pass both of which I'll have to pay to replace).

Any joy this morning?

Ellendegeneres · 31/10/2017 09:33

Yeah I was wondering this morning how you got on?

SquirmOfEels · 31/10/2017 09:39

If there is any way of finding the number to ring the bus garage, or visit it, then do that.

All list property that is found at the garage will be hellfthere until it gets sent into the main TfL lost property system. It's way easier to get back from the garage, and it's free (the lovely drivers at one near us even refused HobNobs when I was retrieving a school PE kit).

There's way to enquiry about stuff at the main TfL lost property - online form where you describe items and when you lost them. There's a fee to retrieve. And it may take a few days before the bus garage sends its accumulated stuff into the main system.

Happy hunting!

Stagecoachbusesareshit · 31/10/2017 09:43

Rang the garage first thing this morning (They are only open from 8.30). They don't have my purse and said it won't be handed in now as if it was going to be found it already would have been.

Told me there's no point leaving my details as it won't be found now and there's nothing they can do.

Thanks Stagecoach! Angry

Tried tfl again they said the same.

Cheeseontoastie · 31/10/2017 09:43

Also hoping you managed to get it this morning.

Cheeseontoastie · 31/10/2017 09:44

Gosh xposted. What a nightmare!

Stagecoachbusesareshit · 31/10/2017 10:16

Am really disappointed- I expected the cash to go but I thought someone might hand the purse/ other contents in which are pretty worthless other than to me.

OP posts:
Lancelottie · 31/10/2017 10:19

Leave your details anyway. DS got his wallet back (with gift cards and £30 inside) about 6 months after leaving it on a bus.

Stagecoachbusesareshit · 31/10/2017 10:28

Stagecoach won't take my details and tfl say as it's a Stagecoach bus it won't come to them so they're not interested either. I could fill out a tfl form but they told me I'd be wasting my time. There is no form for shitty Stagecoach, it's all over the phone. I didn't even get to say what I'd lost - the ignorant bloke on the phone just went 'all we've had handed in yesterday is X and Y. if it ain't that then we ain't got it, and it won't be handed in now it's too late.

OP posts:
Stagecoachbusesareshit · 31/10/2017 13:00

I've emailed Stagecoach customer services...no reply, although that's not really a surprise.

mumonashoestring · 31/10/2017 13:06

Try tweeting them, I usually get more of a response from that than emailing (presumably because its public). And keep trying - I found someone's phone down the side of a seat on a bus once. Took it home, charged it and left it on - when they called it, it turned out they'd lost it a week earlier and been told it was nowhere to be seen on the (Stagecoach!) bus

Stagecoachbusesareshit · 31/10/2017 18:14

I've now joined Twitter and contacted Stagecoach. That was at 2 - no response yet. They've also not responded to my email. I feel I'm not going to get anywhere. It's immensely frustrating.

Stagecoachbusesareshit · 31/10/2017 19:04

Actually it is. If there was any means of contacting them after 4.30 every day I could have reported it then and it would have been found immediately as the bus was pretty empty.

Also the fact that when I tried to speak to someone today I was dismissed immediately and they wouldn't even take my details makes me think either the prick on the phone is just a lazy jobsworth, or it's been taken by a member of staff.

I've also complained that there's no way I can report this and crappy Stagecoach won't reply, nor respond on Twitter.

All buses have cctv. I'm not allowed to see the cctv because there's no evidence of a crime. But as (allegedly) no one has handed my purse in a crime has been committed. I can't prove it without the cctv I'm not allowed to see.

It's just crazy. Meanwhile either my purse has been handed in and I wont be able to get it because I cant leave my details with anyone. Or it's been stolen basically, but there's nothing I can do about that either. And in the meantime I'm stuck with no access to public transport and no money.

How do I get it back

Gogogo12345 · 30/07/2024 17:14

Stagecoachbusesareshit · 30/10/2017 19:25

I have money in my account luckily but no way to travel as in London you can only use contactless or oyster on the bus and both were in my bloody purse Sad

Cant you use apple pay or wallet on your phone or is that gone also?

katscamel · 30/07/2024 17:34

Is there a residents group on Facebook for Bromley as there is for most towns/cities? If so, might be worth checking to see if anyone has found it or writing your own post asking if anyone has it.
