I think it's so lovely that you can offer your opinion to someone who is struggling and without knowing it you could have helped that person turn their life around.

It seems like such a nice place to offload and get another person's opinion.

It can be funny, sad, uplifting, inspirational etc.

I have been reading some threads and it warmed me to see how people pull together to help others without even knowing them.

I feel silly writing all of this but just wanted to say I think it's a lovely place and you all seem so kind to offer your experiences to help others.

I love MN. This place dragged me back from the brink.

I do wonder about some posters on here.

Quite a few of them seem unable to spot trolls/weirdos/goady types.

The over-sharing is quite shocking.

MN isn't the most secure site (see Jeffrey) so people are very stupid to post too much detail.

Mind you MNHQ seem to be much more on the ball with trolls these days since the Reddit sub started.

It's full of people who get their kicks pretending to be a bereaved parent/pregnant teenager/scorned daughter in law/average joe with a particular interest in school uniform, encouraging other people to share their stories and using it for the purpose of stirring up trouble and creating drama.

MNHQ are more likely to punish you for calling out a harmful troll than for being a troll, and you'd have to be daft to post anything real here anyway because it'll get picked up by the vulture-like journalists circling the drain for the slightest dregs of clickbait "news" they can get.

Everyone used to whine about the "royalty" and the "clique" but they were (mostly) a decent bunch who were abrupt in their posting style and wrote in a unique way that made a name for themselves. Now most of the good ones are gone because they called out trolls for what they were, and they've been replaced by head-girl types who all want to be MNHQ's special pet.

I used to love MN. I really needed it when I joined and it delivered; I got the advice I needed with no bullshit, a little bit of snark but no-one being an arsehole for the sake of being an arsehole. Fast forward to now and it's unrecognisable. I used to share my story in the hope it would help others but the vast majority have been PBPs and trolls (but you're not allowed to call them that) so what's the point?

Yes it's a shame if trolls drive genuine posters off the boards. Which it looks like it's doing. This place has meant a lot to me over the years and I would be reluctant to leave it.

I love MN too. So many different conversations happening at the same time ranging from the humorous to serious to political to thought provoking to daft to life changing. Crap does happen but that's life. I've not made any friends here but I've met some like minded people & I post when I feel I have something to add. So many intelligent people on here & so many thought provoking threads, I love anything which makes me stop and think. The best forum I've ever been on - honest, true to life, warts and all which is rare on social media these days.

I think the trolls and threads on DM have changed it. I would never post things looking for support these days.

I'm conflicted. On the one hand, MN is not what it was. So YABU. On the other, if it's so terrible, why the hell am I here night after night? So YANBU.

purranormalcativity that's how I feel too. I haven't actually been on here for too long, only a couple of months, but I really like it so far. I just like to know I'm not alone with some of my troubles and like to see that people help each other.

Emabrmsca there's nearly always someone who'll help. It doesn't matter what people post about it's good to know that whatever it is you're not alone.

Just my opinion, but getting really put off by a lot of what I see. Sad, as I’ve seen people get some really good help, but more and more I’m seeing nastiness that just gets me down. And I’ve only been on here for about 6 months - not sure how much longer I can last

NerdyViking - truth be told I'm not sure how long MN can last now.

It's on a definite race to the bottom and is fast becoming the domain of lazy journalists and trolls interspersed with a few genuine MNers.
