To wonder why you use mumsnet?

For me, it's a sort of social connection I think I'm seeking. An emotional side which is sorely lacking in my marriage. And I like to think I might help people. Sounds a bit sad Blush I do sometimes wonder what I could achieve if I used the hours I spend on here more constructively...

Why do you come here?

Started for the style and beauty tips, stayed because it is nice to think that your advice might help and there are so many nice MN-ers who seem to think the same.

Hmm. Well I lurked because of pregnancy stuff. Joined after penisbeaker (though actually a quiet little thread at the same time) stayed during my first miscarriage for the support. Went away for a bit during my 2nd - 3rd. Came back during pregnancy.
Since then it feels like company though I am a good few name changes in and hardly mums net regular.

There a few reasons for me.
There are many topics that I'm interested in e.g. Travel, films, the great outdoors etc so it's interesting to see people's opinion on things.

It's good to ask for advice. I recently posted about a trip I'm going on and have had a lot of good ideas and suggestions for places to visit that I hadn't thought of.

MN can be a way of passing time while I'm waiting for something else.

The chats and AIBU pages are often quite amusing.

I often take things with a pinch of salt and don't believe everything I read but do offer advice or my expierence when people have posted something I can relate to.

There's obviously pages I wouldn't seek out such as pregnancy, breastfeeding or about young children because it's not relevant to me but if something comes up on trending or discussion of the day and I can relate to it I may reply.

This is why I am always Hmm when people start a thread about what are people without children doing here or 'It's called Munsnet!!!!!!!, why are men here!' These people always seem angry.

To stop myself from falling asleep while breastfeeding

Aibu sucked me in and wrapped it's tendrils round my heart and mind - now I can't escape!

Came on for support while TTC, stuck around throughout pregnancy and the addiction grew. When I put my phone down my husband says "oh have you completed mumsnet?"

Misty9 · 30/10/2017 17:55

I used to say "oh I read somewhere..." and now I just say to dh "on mumsnet it's recommended that xyz...." Grin none of my friends use it so I rarely reference it with them!

For really sound, impartial advice Smile.

I was 29 and recently married and intended to TTC immediately so thought I better do some research. I'm almost 33 and still not TTC for various reasons but I stayed because I'm nosy and keep weird hours. I enjoy the insight into people's lives and the fact that there is always something to read.

I came for reasons unknown now, but I did google a question and found myself here. I came and went for a while, and then read about a mum with cancer and remember her first post and her last few, then when she died. I think she was a doctor. I was really saddened by it and that I'd followed her story on and off but I never met in real life. It felt like I knew some of her journey and heard her pain.
And that's what mumsnet is like. You can follow each other's stories. Normally because they go through something the same as you, and others for no particular connection other than they are on here. Now though I pop in and get great support and accountability for weight loss and running / exercise tips. I really enjoy it. You can't get there anywhere else I reckon. So overall it's a great community.
