So this weekend, there were loads going off, sounded like a organised event. Dh was a bit pissed off, but I thought-Halloween party. Tonight-Sunday, there's been two similar, long drawn out events since it went dark.
My cat isn't bothered, but I know lots of animals and small kids will be upset by the loud noise (I've had to turn the TV up) We live in a market town with lots of stone houses, narrow yards and the sound just bounces from wall to wall.
So is it me being a miserable sod, or should they be controlled better than those?

Isn't it interesting that the replies on thread from people who enjoy them say just that. 'I love them (so fuck what is happening to anyone else)'

Sums the whole thing up really.

Rebeccaslicker · 01/11/2017 07:55

I love fireworks. I love them so much.

But I would never have them on any night other than 5 November or go to a local event on the nearest Saturday that has been well advertised. Letting them off for the sake of it days in advance is thoughtless and unnecessary.

YANBU. As others have said, it's the fact that it isn't just a few specific nights that you can plan for. Anybody can buy them and let them off so there's no way to anticipate it. It terrifies many animals, many young children and many vulnerable people. My elderly neighbour won't leave his house after about 4pm from the start of October, he says he feels like a prisoner, and the effect it has on my disabled niece is really distressing to witness. That's not to even mention the torment my dog goes through. So no, I don't think it's miserable to object OP. I think people are really selfish and inconsiderate when it comes to fireworks.

We still have them going off here (outside Edinburgh) my dogs stressed out

I CANNOT believe there are some individuals on here who are criticising you for complaining about noisy fireworks. Are they mad??? Don't they realise that these idiots who let off fireworks at Ridiculous O'Clock are a BIG nuisance??? They terrorise animals and people, and should be confined to just public displays. Shame on these supermarkets who are selling these infernal things weeks before Guy Fawkes night is even here. I hate them. BAN FIREWORKS NOW.

ShillyShallySherbet · 20/10/2024 19:10

Organised displays, fine. In fact, fun. But people shouldn’t be able to buy firework and set them off randomly, in my opinion. They should be for professional use only.
