Ok, so arranged a day out at Legoland yesterday. I was able to get free tickets as my son is disabled via charity, so that was fabulous.

Off we trundled, full of excitement and hope! Its 2 hr and 40 min drive however it took us 5 hours!!!!!!!! M25 was a nightmare as part of it was closed!!

Got there - queued for our tickets. Of course the 'BIG LEGO' shop is in full view of the queuing area, which caused a bit of hassle before we had even got in.

To cut a long and very stressful story short, I hated every minute of it - the queues, the crowds, the insanely overpriced ice cream. I was so disappointed that id imagined this unforgettable day out, didn't live up to expectation. Never ever again. My son loved the mini lego village and luckily there was fireworks that night which was a huge saving grace!

I just didn't 'get it' - I didn't understand the fascination, and it didn't give me the 'wow factor', but then I'm not a child! This morning I calculated what it would have cost to enter with day tickets. £150 for three of us, and my 2 year old would have got in free. That doesn't include parking but did include an advanced booking discount. I was horrified!!!!!

However, on the positive side it has taught me that my son is quite a simple soul, he wasn't really interested in the rides, or the weird dancing Master Wu. He'd much prefer to kick a ball around a field or paddle in the sea. I'm trying to put it down to experience!

So this leads me to this question, when have you been disappointed by a day out you've had so much hope for?

Oh OP! my day out at legoland with my DH and DCs in the summer was the best day out I think I've ever had!!!! We got there at 9:30 and left at 8! It was really fantastic!! We had heard so many horror stories about long queues etc... but as we got there early, there was not much queuing til after lunch! The day was really really amazing! We had a picnic watching a Lego friends spectacular, then snack and coffee watching a pirate show! Cos we had a picnic, not much to spend on food! We went on loads of rides. My kids smiled from start to finish. Weather was lovely.

Just the best day ever. We had a snack after the park shut, in the restaurant by the exit, and sat and watched the views over Windsor! While kids built duplo they'd bought from souvenir shop with money saved especially for the trip! Must have been one of the last families to leave the car park (so no traffic etc..)

Honestly it was the best! Truly truly great day that none of us will ever forget.

So .... yabu! Wink

YANBU

I was there yesterday. Queued for a 5 minute ride. For 50 minutes.

That's not my idea of a great day - the kids were looking forward to it, we drove 3.5 hours to get there, and we hardly got to do anything it was so busy.

I was like 'pfffft', but hid it so the kids would at least enjoy it.

We went to Legoland a few years ago. We bought the cereal packets to get the discount and it still cost an arm and a leg to get in.
The dc loved it I thought it was a bit crap and overpriced but we had a good day out. I wouldn’t go again though it wasn’t worth it.

We went to DLP last year and it was ok. Much better than LL but so overpriced for what it is. Though the fast passes were quite good.

The dc loved it all and that was the main thing.

The best thing about legoland is everyone gets there early and leaves early. This means for people who stay late no queues and a few times you get to stay on rides and go around a few times as no queue.

It's the devils playground

And Q bot is the devils tool . Letting rich people jump the queue Shock vile vile

Has anyone been and stayed at Billund recently. DH has always wanted to go to Windsor (we are very far away) and think we should skip it and head straight to Denmark instead!

Went to Alton Towers and found it shabby, depressing and grim. Kids enjoyed it (teenagers) but I didn't - all the rides seem to be either roller coasters or little kids rides with hardly any family rides in between. Best bit for me was Charlie and Lola area in Cbeebies land. Roller Coaster Restaurant was the most overpriced shite ever. Never again! Blackpool Pleasure Beach is definitely our favourite UK theme park.
But to be honest, I would rather save up and spend the extra on a trip to Disneyland Paris.
