Honestly what a shit song. Did an 8 year old write the lyrics?

OP posts:
SwedishEdith · 28/10/2017 00:38

It's like a Morrisey parody. Except it's not.

Exactly. If a John Culshaw-type sketchshow was doing Morrissey, that's what they'd write.

Fucky · 28/10/2017 00:38

I always think of Pete Burns calling Morrisey ‘that old queen’ Grin

Butterymuffin · 28/10/2017 00:50

Contessa that irritated the fuck out of me as well. Someone said of the novel he went on to publish, List of the Lost, that it had made them realise that his main gift was for writing great titles and everything went downhill from there Smile Nailed it

TinklyLittleLaugh · 28/10/2017 00:53

People who know nothing about Morrissey claim he writes cut your throats lyrics. He actually writes very witty, romantic lyrics.

But yeah, I can't get past the little Englander stance he takes nowadays and I don't like him much any more. I was a mahoosive fan though, back in the day.

Dauphinoise · 28/10/2017 00:54

DH and I genuinely LOL'd. Just shit cringeworthy try-too-hard toss. Attempting to be 'down with the kids. Can't stomach the guy. And what was that blazer with no top all about... bleurgh! Envy

NonnoMum · 28/10/2017 16:19

Obs not v chatty, is he?

Even Liam The Twitch Gallagher made a bit of an effort...

Holdtightdontletgo · 28/10/2017 16:21

Love him but yes the lyrics were a bit basic.

cuirderussie · 28/10/2017 16:32

I find the Little Englander thing weird. Because Morrissey's parents stepped off the Dublin-Holyhead mailboat practically minutes before he was born. We used to be more enthusiastic here in the auld sod about claiming him as ours but have gone off him lately! also he increasingly resembles all Irish grandads at weddings, the ones with long nose hairs who get up and sing Grin

NonnoMum · 28/10/2017 16:36

Irish Grandads at weddings!!!! HAHAHAHAHA... I KNEW I'd seen him somewhere before. We must be cousins...

NonnoMum · 28/10/2017 16:38

My DD heard this on the radio for the other day and gave exactly the same 'are you seriously interested in THIS drivel' sneer that my parents used to give years earlier when listening to The Smiths.

cuirderussie · 28/10/2017 16:41

Nonno he's the one belting out The Fields of Athenry while simultaneously reviving an ancient feud and pressing 20 quid into your palm and getting another round in. Definitely cousins!

Uokbing · 28/10/2017 16:46

He is such a bellend.

StoorieHoose · 28/10/2017 17:09

My heart loves him and always will but my head knows that he’s a xenophobic auld man now.

I’ll stick to remember how he was in the Smiths and up to about 10 years ago.

NonnoMum · 28/10/2017 17:20

I still have a soft spot for him....
Just...

CakesRUs · 28/10/2017 17:35

Late Sean Hughes - oh no!!!! Sad

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 28/10/2017 17:35

He was an annoying self-absorbed arse back in his Smiths days, and he's got even worse since then.

It was a shocking shit rendition of a shocking shit song. He should give up.

iwouldgoouttonight · 28/10/2017 18:15

My heart loves him and always will but my head knows that he’s a xenophobic auld man now.

Exactly this. I like his new song but probably more for nostalgia's sake than anything. I will defend The Smiths songs to the end though.

SquatBetty · 28/10/2017 18:21

He's a tragic old racist cunt but by God, I love The Smiths.

bertsdinner · 28/10/2017 18:32

I love Mozz and The Smiths, great band/songs/lyrics. Not all songs are doomladen, a lot are very humerous, whimsical even. New song leaves me cold.
Morrisey himself has always been opinionated and a bit of a knob, even in his Smiths days.

Lovedlost · 28/10/2017 19:37

I adore him. Great voice and incredible songwriter.
He has aged, as have we all. Most of his lyrics are tongue in cheek. His humour is fabulous.
Each to their own.

Ethylred · 28/10/2017 20:15

The arse he is now reflects only the arse he was then.

Compare Sade: class then, class now.

Floellabumbags · 28/10/2017 20:22

I loved The Smiths but I think Mozza has lost the plot with this one. Johnny Marr must have been howling laughing at that.
